Product Review: Veet EasyWax Electrical Roll-On Kit

Reviewer: Suziesaurus

Brand: Veet
Name: EasyWax Electrical Roll-On Kit
Size: 50 ml
Price: n/a

What it says on the box:

“Discover the new Veel EasyWaxTM Electrical Roll-On – an innovative self-heating wax system with a roll-on applicator for salon wax results at home.

Formulated with the same ingredients as the waxes use in waxing salons, Veet wax removes hair from the root at first application, and is effective on hair as short as 2mm.

It is specifically formulated with natural beeswax for all skin types. moisturized, and remains impeccably smooth for up to 4 weeks!”

To Purr About:
- process is simple
- self-heating device with a charging stand is super convenient
- ergonomic device helps make application easy
- re-heating is as easy as plugging device back in
- rolling applicator comes with each wax refill which means no mess to clean up
- wax refills available for sale with different sized applicators for different body parts
- wax cartridge doesn’t have to be used all at once
- comes with strips to remove wax and also finishing wipes to remove excess wax
- affordable price

Claws Out:
- have to over 30 minutes for wax to heat up
- not that effective in removing hair
- have to wash/clean and dry out strips

Final Comments:
I was intrigued when I first saw this product because it is a great idea. It gets rid of the hassle of having to heat the wax by other methods (like in the microwave), which is great. I’m always looking for products to decrease the time I spend on chores like hair removal.

One of the great things about Veet’s EasyWax Electrical Roll-on product is that the heating device is so easy to use. You simply put in a wax cartridge, plug it in, put it on the handy stand and wait for the wax to heat up. The while process was simple and set up was easy and very convenient. No more running back to the microwave to heat up the wax. I found it took a bit longer than the suggested 20 minutes for the wax to heat up, which isn’t always great if you’re looking for a quick hair removal solution, but waxing is rarely a quick routine so that can be overlooked and avoided with a bit more planning. Once the wax was heated it was ready to be rolled on and flowed out smoothly. Re-heating the wax is also super easy as you just have to plug the device back in.

I really like that the wax cartridges comes with different sized roller wheels depending on if you want to do a large area (like your legs) or a smaller area (like your bikini line). Best of all, since the applicator is attached to the wax cartridge you don’t have to clean the roller part after each use.

The wax itself is smooth, liquidy, bright pink and didn’t have a strong smell, It rolled on smoothly, but unfortunately I didn’t find it that effective in removing hair. Maybe this is due to the thinner consistency of the wax or maybe I just need to get the hang of it, but I had to do the same area about 3 times before I got it to work. Once it did work, my hair was removed leaving my skin nice and smooth and hairless.

The wax cartridges come with a package of strips to pull the wax off and also finishing wipes to remove excess wax left on your skin at the end of the process. The wipes were great and removed excess wax effectively. If you run out you can use baby lotion for the same effect.

All in all I loved the user-friendliness of this product and I definitely think it’s an improvement to the wax you have to heat in the microwave. I’m still on the fence whether I’d use it instead of shaving and ready-to-use wax strips, but I will definitely be trying it again in hopes of getting the hang of the technique in hopes that improved skill will equal more hairs removed.

Product Review: Yes To Cucumbers Facial Towlettes

Reviewer: Suziesaurus

Brand: Yes To Cucumbers
Name: Hypoallergenic Facial Towlettes
Size: 10 Travel Towelettes
Price: $3.50 CAD

What it says on the product site:
“Our famed facial towelettes in mini! If you like the larger version, you'll love these. Like their big brothers, the Yes To Cucumbers On The Go Facial Wipes are 98.7% natural, hypoallergenic, and made from organic cucumber and aloe vera. Designed for the trendy traveler, this package of travel towelettes will fit right into your purse (or a TSA size clear plastic bag!) to cleanse, soothe and remove makeup to refresh your beautiful face, regardless of where you are.”

To Purr About:
- convenient travel size
- refreshing fresh scent
- moisturizing
- hypoallergenic
- paraben, SLS and petroleum free
- 98.7% natural
- also available in packs of 30 towelettes
- left skin feeling refreshed

Claws Out:
- didn’t clean my skin as well as normal cleansers would
- made my face break out a bit

Final Comments:
On a recent trip to Shoppers Drug Mart I was looking for travel friendly products
for our upcoming vacation. I spotted this cute product and since it was on sale
decided to give it a try. I’ve tried Yes To Carrots products before, but never the
Yes To Cucumbers line. I was pretty excited to see they had a travel sized set of
wipes as I find many brands have wipes, but none that I can slip in to my toiletry
bag without taking up too much space. I am a glutton for convenience.

I really did enjoy using these towelettes – they have a nice fresh scent, are very
moisturizing and left my skin feeling refreshed. However, they are no match for
real facial cleansers/scrubs and water, and I found I started getting pimples a few
days into the trip. As a result I probably will not be picking up this product again.

Product Review: Youth Corridor Antioxidant Boost Skin Serum

Reviewer: Suziesaurus

Brand: Youth Corridor
Name: Antioxidant Boost Skin Serum
Size: 1 fl. oz. / 30 ml
Price: $125.00 USD

From the package: "Youth Corridor Antioxidant Boost Skin Serum is a revolutionary high-performance complex formulated with 10% Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Melatonin, which work synergistically to neutralize free radical damage and protect against oxidative stress. This combination is a potent defense against inflammation and enhances the skin’s natural photoprotective response. It stimulates collagen and elastin production, strengthening the support structure of healthy skin and creating a more youthful appearance."

To Purr About:
- paraban free
- saw an instant difference in the appearance of skin
- did see an improvement on the overall appearance of my skin
- lasts a long time since you only need a few drops per application

Claws Out:
- very high price
- not a fan of the scent

Final Comments:
This is my first experience with Youth Corridor’s products. The 3 main ingredients advertised on this product are vitamin C, vitamin E and melatonin. I’ve definitely heard (and am a firm believer) that vitamin C and vitamin E does wonders for the skin, so I was interested to try this product.

Applying this product is still a bit odd to me - I don’t think I’ll ever get the hand of smoothing 3–6 drops of this product over my entire face. It feels a little like oil and isn’t conducive to smoothing over skin. I can’t tell if I’m using enough, or too much and if I’m getting it over my entire face.

After using this product for a couple months I have to say I’ve noticed an improvement in my skin. My pesky forehead wrinkles are not noticeable and this product is really helping to keep my skin feeling supple and healthy. So much so that most days I even forget to put moisturizer on. I was hoping this product would brighten my complexion a bit more to make it nicer, but I’m pretty happy with the results nonetheless.

The major downside to this product is that it is on the pricey side at $125.00
USD, but because you only need a few drops it does definitely last a long time so
I think the high cost is balanced out by that.

Cinnamon Kitten Q&A with Minna of UNII Cosmetics

Q&A Session with: Minna, Founder of UNII Cosmetics

How Cinnamon Kitten discovered UNII Cosmetics
Minna had previously sent me a sample of the UNII palette to review and I fell in love with the look, practicality and idea behind the palette. You can check out my original review of the UNII Palette here.

* * * * *

Tell us a little about yourself and what inspired you to start your own company.

As a makeup enthusiast, I had a pretty eclectic collection of makeup. I was getting tired of carrying around what seemed like dozens of little eye shadows and blushes in one clunky bag and then just throwing away the empty makeup cases once all of the powder had been used up. So around 7 years ago, I figured out a way to consolidate my makeup into one case that would not just allow me to have my favorite brands and shades in one case but that would hold refills therefore eliminating excess packaging. I studied architecture and design in college which influenced the functionality and design of the palette. I wanted to create something that was aesthetically beautiful as well as user friendly and efficient.

Tell us about UNII Cosmetics.

UNII Cosmetics launched about a year ago with the goal of providing functional products that are also beautiful.

Have both of you always had a fascination with beauty products?

Yes and no. I loved exploring and discovering new makeup and beauty products while in high school. However, while in college and grad school, my focus shifted and I enjoyed learning about design. I took classes in design, manufacturing, business, and engineering. The UNII Palette is an intersection of these two interests.

Besides UNII Cosmetics, what else occupies your days?

UNII Cosmetics is increasingly taking up more of my time. I make sure to make time for things I love like yoga and catching up with friends. I look forward to making some time for travel, hopefully soon.

I love my UNII Palette, but tell me why you think my readers NEED to have one as well...

Personally, more than anything else, my UNII Palette saves me time. I can access all of my favorite products quickly without having to rummage through my bag or open and close multiple little containers.

The beauty industry is constantly changing. How do you keep on top of trends?

Being from outside the beauty industry, I have a lot of learning to do. I find the best place to learn about trends is from my customers. Feedback from my customers is so valuable and helpful. I can get a sense of what is available, what is lacking, and where things are headed. YouTube and blogs are also a great place to learn.

Besides your own line, what brands have made it onto your favourites list?

I like to try new things so this is hard... But the items that have stayed with me for a long time include MAC eyeshadows, Burt's Bee's Bees Wax Lip Balm, and my Shu Uemura Eyelash curler.

What are 3 beauty products you can’t live without.

MAC Gel Eyeliner, Amlactin body lotion, lip gloss.

What’s in store from UNII Cosmetics for 2011?

We are excited to expand the UNII line! Based on feedback from our customers, we will be coming out with different color and sized palettes. Please stay tuned!

Product Review: Yardley Moisturizing Bath Bar

Reviewer: Suziesaurus

Brand: Yardley
Name: : Moisturizing Bath Bar
Size: 120 g / 4.25 oz
Price: approx. $3 USD

Scent Tried: Limited Edition Vanilla Sugar

From the packaging: "Our new Limited Edition Vanilla Sugar moisture bar hits the bath time sweet spot! With cocoa butter, oatmeal and wheat bran, Yardley’s recipe of nourishing and exfoliating ingredients turns out a savory seasonal treat."

To Purr About:
- subtle pleasant smell
- doesn’t irritate my super sensitive skin
- lathers up well
- leaves skin feeling very clean and rejuvenated

Claws Out:
- not as moisturizing as I would like for the cold weather
- not a very good exfoliant

Final Comments:
When I first opened the package of this Yardley bar soap I was excited to see it had pieces of oatmeal and wheat bran in it. I was also pleased that this bar wasn’t super strong in the aroma field as I sometimes get irritated with strong scents.

After using Yardley’s Limited Edition Vanilla Sugar Soap Bar for weeks I have to say that it is a nice subtle soap, but unfortunately it wasn’t moisturizing enough for my skin and the cold weather we’ve been getting lately. I was also finding myself a bit nervous when using this soap bar as I didn’t want to get any pieces of wheat bran or oatmeal stuck in my ear or eyes.

I think this soap may get a very different review in the summer months when my skin isn’t so dry (since I suffer from extremely dry and sensitive skin), but for now I think I’ll have to go back to my regulars.

Prolonging the Urban Decay

I have a love/hate relationship with the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion.

While I absolutely LOVE the staying power of the primer and have yet to find a better product to help keep my eyeliner and eyeshadow in place, I hate the packaging.

The cute "genie bottle" packaging has a lot of curves to the design, which for anyone who's ever used the product, it means the primer is very difficult (read: impossible) to get out.

In recent years, they re-designed the wand so that instead of a straight applicator, the tip of the applicator is "bent", which, in theory, meant that you could be able to reach into the fat curvy parts and get more product out.

A few weeks ago, I reached the "end" of my bottle of primer, and for another week, did my best to scrape out any remaining product that I could with the applicator wand. After a few final days with next to nothing coming out, I cracked open the package (a messy process in itself) and managed to get out GOBS more primer, which I sealed up in a a little bottle. If you plan on doing this yourself, have something ready to store it in - the primer dries up really quickly when exposed to air.

Since I use very little primer each day, the amount that I salvaged after I couldn't get any more out the usual way is probably enough to last me a few more months! (I'm going to see exactly how much longer the extra primer I dug out lasts me)

So, beauty gals - what do you think? Should Urban Decay forego the cute bottle and come up with something that doesn't make us waste so much product (and spend more money) or is that part of their scheme? It seems like a total waste to me.

Have you used the UD Primer potion? Do you crack it open like I do? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Product Review: UNII Palette

Brand: UNII Cosmetics
Name: Palette
Size: n/a
Price: $29.00 USD

This cool new palette tool magnetically stores multiple brands of makeup pans (like MAC, Stila, ELF, etc.) all in one place.

Each UNII Palette Includes:
- Magnetized Palette, so makeup stays put
- Adhesive magnetic sheet with writable labels
- Large, full-sized mirror for the makeup on the go
- Movable thumb grip
- Tight, rubberized seal prevents leaks
- Durable and purse-friendly

To Purr About:
- the palette itself is gorgeous - looks almost like a mini-laptop or something in my bag
- very easy to use and customize
- the built-in mirror is huge - very easy to do touch-ups
- I love having all the makeup I need in one handy location, instead of many different pots, compacts, etc.
- you aren't limited to the brand of makeup you can put in the palette

Claws Out:
- none really

Final Comments:
I can't say enough about the UNII Palette. I love it. I love the way it looks and how easy it is to use. I also love being able to have all my favourite products together in one place. Although I don't tend to carry my UNII Palette around much (I find the powders all get loose and mix together), I still love using it (great for travelling and on my limited bathroom counter space).

Another great feature of the UNII Palette is that you aren't limited to the makeup or the brand that you put in it (as opposed to other palettes that only hold certain brand sizes). You can put in blush, eyeshadow, lip gloss - pretty much anything you have that comes in a pan.

Also, after corresponding with Minna, the founder of UNII Cosmetics, I know that this is a quality product created by a woman who loves beauty products and cares about her customers.

The UNII web site has lots of great information on how to depot your pans from their plastic cases (if you're not buying the loose pans), cleaning information and examples of how other users filled their Palettes.

$30 off a pair of Whoogas

I know I almost never blog about anything other than beauty products, but I received a really nice email the other day from someone at Whooga and had to pass this deal along to you.

What's a Whooga? Well, they're a brand of super-soft, sheepskin boots.

Actually, according to their site: "'Ugg boots' is a term which has been used for over 100 years in Australia to describe a style of sheepskin boot. It’s important to understand this because Whooga boots are a brand of sheepskin boots. We utilize uniquely thick merino sheepskins, brand the boots proudly with our labels and ship direct from our factories to avoid additional overheads."

You can check out Whooga's for yourself on their site.

And, as a gift for Cinnamon Kitten readers, I've been given $30 for you to spend on their website!

If you make a purchase on http://www.whooga.com/ in the next month, enter the code CINNAMONKI into the code box when checking out and you will get $30 off your order.

Full Disclosure:
I have not been given any products or compensation for this offer.
I will not receive any commissions on any sales made using this bonus code.

Product Review: Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream

Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten

Brand: Yu-Be
Name: Moisturizing Skin Cream
Size: 1.25 oz / 33 g
Price: $15 USD

I've never heard of Yu-Be before, but apparently it's a popular product in Japan.

A Glycerin-based moisturizing cream enriched with Vitamin E, Vitamin B2 and Camphor, Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream contains these leading skin conditioning ingredients (from the Yu-Be web site):
- Glycerin - natural "Humectant" attracts and retains moisture in the skin, making it softer
- Vitamin E - natural anti-oxidant and skin protector
- Vitamin B2 - helps to smooth rough or damaged skin (also gives Yu-Be it's yellow color)
- Camphor - helps soothe minor skin irritations (mild scent fades in minutes)

Other things that Yu-Be claims to do:
- helps hydrate, heal, soothe and smooth severe dry skin
- helps heal split cuticles and smooth rough, dry skin on hands, elbows, knees and feet
- helps protect and moisturize skin exposed to cold, wind, water and sun
- non-greasy formula absorbs quickly and locks in for hours
- contains no artificial colors or fragrances

To Purr About:
- absorbs super-quickly
- non-greasy
- my skin felt noticeably softer immediately after using

Claws Out:
- the camphor smell is a little off-putting at first, but it does fade pretty quickly
- online purchasing is only available to US residents
- a little expensive for a small amount

Final Comments:
The smell of this cream was a bit of a turn-off at first, but it does fade pretty quickly. And this product works really well! It absorbs really fast and leaves my skin feeling silky almost right away. The only thing is that you only get a little tube for $15 USD, so I wouldn't use this as a daily product, but perhaps for when you need a little extra soothing - I would use it mainly on hands, feet, elbows, knees, etc.

Product Review: Your Best Face Correct

Reviewer: Suziesaurus

Brand: Your Best Face
Name: Correct
Size: 0.5 oz.
Price: $150 USD

My eye area always gives me probelms, especially in the dry Canadian winters. It gets so bad I even get dry rashing near my eyes sometimes which is very annoying. So I’m always on the look out for products to help me keep that area nice and moisturized. Since I really enjoyed YBF’s Restore product, I figured I might also like their Correct product that is targeted for the eye area.

Instructions: twice daily, dispense a small dot of cream and smooth around the area of each eye. Avoid direct eye contact.

To Purr About:
- awesome and convenient pump that meant not an ounce was wasted
- quite moisturizing for my eye area

Claws Out:
- a bit pricey
- didn’t work well with makeup

Final Comments:
After using this product for a bit I realized it was only practical for me to use it once a day in the evenings before bed, because applying makeup on top of it in the mornings was just not working for me. The makeup just slid right off.

Although I found this product quite moisturizing, it didn’t blow my mind away and I still saw small wrinkles and dark circles. I don’t think I would pay such a high price for this product. I’d much rather save my money up for YBF’s awesome Restore cream.

Product Review: Yes To Carrots Shower Gel

Reviewer: suziesaurus

Brand: Yes to Carrots
Name: Shower Gel
Size: 500 ml
Price: n/a

I’ve never been completely in love with a body wash or soap and I’ve just run out of my current body wash, so it’s time to try a new one!

I've tried Yes To Carrots' night moisturizing cream and liked it well enough so I figured I'd try some of their other products.

From their website: "Rich in Dead Sea Mud and minerals, C How to Shower nourishes and revives your skin, leaving you deliciously clean and smooth all over!"

To Purr About:
- lathers up well
- sweet scent doesn’t linger
- skin wasn’t itchy or dry after using

Claws Out:
- a very sweet smell – not overpowering, but I tend not to like scented stuff

Final Comments:
Like their night moisturizing cream I wasn't really liking the super sweet scent. Other than that I had no major complaints. It’s hard for me to review body wash – but I guess I felt clean. I don’t think this body wash is very moisturizing, but I didn’t find my skin itchy from dryness, so I would rate it pretty well as I have normally very dry & sensitive skin.

Product Review: Your Best Face Defend

Reviewer: Suziesaurus

Brand: Your Best Face
Name: Defend
Size: 1 oz.
Price: $120 USD

YBF’s Defend product is said to "defend your face from sun and shine with our amazing gel that’s designed to protect the skin from daytime agers, improve your look with spin trap (the cutting-edge antioxidant) and keep pores under control."

Instructions: May be used alone or prior to the application of our other products. Apply a small amount evenly to the face and allow to dry.

To Purr About:
- has a very nice subtle almond scent
- convenient dispensing pump
- awesome pump that meant not an ounce was wasted
- after continual use my skin stayed in a constant good condition from when I started

Claws Out:
- a bit pricey
- adds another step to the daily beauty regime as I still have to use moisturizer and other products with it
- flakes off just a little bit

Final Comments:
Although YBF’s Defend product kept my skin in good condition, it didn’t quite give me that amazing complexion that I found their Restore product did. That’s obviously not a con, but if I’m going to pay around the same amount I’d rather buy the Restore product. I also found after using it daily that it did flake off just a little during the rest of my routine (moisturizing, makeup, etc.) which bothered me.

Product Review: Yes to Carrots C Me Smile Lip Butter

Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten

Brand: Yes to Carrots
Name: C Me Smile Lip Butter
Size: 4.25 g / 0.15 oz.
Price: $4.99 CAD

Flavour Tried: Mint

Available in 3 flavours, Carrot, Mint and Berry, Yes to Carrots' latest product is a "super nourishing and conditioning...100% natural and 95% organic."

Made from natural ingredients, including carrots and other orange fruits and vegetables, these lip butters also include Jojoba, Vitamin E and Shea Butter.

To Purr About:
- mint flavour is very light and not overpowering (or tingly like many other "mint" flavoured balms tend to be)
- affordable price for an organic lip balm
- natural ingredients aren't harsh on my lips, which have been very dry lately
- moisturizing, but not greasy

Claws Out:
- none really

Final Comments:
This was a great lip balm and I love that it comes in a tube format, rather than the popular "pots". Very handy to toss in a purse or bag. I tend to avoid mint-flavoured lip balms because I find most of them are too strong and result in a tingling sensation which I don't like, but this lip butter is very light and doesn't bother me at all. Overall, a great lip butter that's not greasy and keeps my lips feeling great.

Available in Canada exclusively at Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmaprix.

Product Review: Your Best Face Control

Reviewer: Suziesaurus

Brand: Your Best Face
Name: Control
Size: 1 oz.
Price: $160 USD

I was impressed by YBF’s Restore product, so I wanted to try their other offerings. I have tried a couple of wrinkle products in the past, but although they did hide the appearance of wrinkles, they didn’t get rid of them completely.

YBF’s face cream leaves the face looking toned, refreshed and healthy. It is designed to help you avoid and correct wrinkles and maintain a youthful look.

Instructions: Apply lightly day and night to a clean face.

To Purr About:
- has a very nice subtle almond scent
- convenient dispensing pump
- awesome pump that meant not an ounce was wasted

Claws Out:
- a bit pricey
- only a minimal improvement after about a month’s use
- isn’t moisturizing

Final Comments:
I was a little surprised by the vibrant yellow colour of this product, but I soon got over that. I found this product a little drying, so I had to apply moisturizer to my face after applying which added yet another step to my daily routine – which I really don’t need.

Although I really love YBF’s products, I am sorry to say I didn’t see a huge improvement on my forehead wrinkles which was a bit disappointing. Maybe my wrinkles are just a bit too stubborn.

Product Review: Your Best Face Restore

Reviewer: Suziesaurus

Brand: Your Best Face
Name: Restore
Size: 15 ml
Price: $120 USD

My skin has definitely taken a beating lately. Bad eating habits, lots of stress and lack of sleep can easily be seen in my crappy skin. So in a bid to improve my skin, I’ve turned to this new skin care line (in addition to improving my eating habits).

From their website: "You crave bright and flawless skin, so we created restore. Our combination of advanced skin brighteners, spin trap (the ultimate anti-aging antioxidant) and soothing vitamins B and E work together to even out pigmentation, diminish dark spots and reduce inflammation to promote a complexion you’ll love."

To Purr About:
- has a very nice subtle almond scent
- I actually did notice a huge improvement in my complexion with continual use

Claws Out:
- a bit pricey
- wasn't completely sure how to use this product, but it wasn't moisturizing enough, so it definitely required a follow-up with moisturizer

Final Comments:
I’ve been using the product for a few weeks now. I apply it once a day after I shower and after about an hour I follow-up with a moisturizer for bedtime.

I was so happy to see that my complexion did actually improve after about a week of use. It did actually seem to even out my pigmentation and diminish the dark spots on my face. My skin seemed brighter and more healthy looking and had a nicer glow to it. So I would say that it’s worth the money, however, at the moment it’s still a bit out of my price range. Perhaps if I only used it every other day I could rationalize it.

I am definitely looking forward to trying the other products from YBF after this positive experience.
