Product Review: Michael Todd Naked Kiss Lipstick

Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten

Brand: Michael Todd
Name: : Naked Kiss Lipstick
Size: n/a
Price: $16 USD

Shade Tried: Affection

From the Michael Todd website: "Naked Kiss glides on beautifully and feels absolutely weightless. Our special Anti-Aging Concentrate treats your lips throughout the day while moisturizers keep lips soft and super kissable!"

Currently available in 14 shades – ranging from nudes, to deep purples and reds, Naked Kiss is ideal for everyone.

To Purr About:
- extremely light-weight lipstick
- went on easily
- did not dry my lips at all
- smaller size was easy to tote around
- the bright red shade that I tried was very flattering and looked great (and I never usually wear such bold colours)

Claws Out:
- none really

Final Comments:
I was a little hesitate to try this lipstick because of the bold shade of red that I was sent (I never wear dark lipsticks, generally opting for lighter shades), but I was happily suprised on all accounts.

This lipstick is extremely light and after application I didn't feel like I had anything on at all. My lips didn't feel dry or heavy, there was no caking and the colour was very vibrant (and flattering). You have to apply and blot a couple of times because it doesn't stay on very long if you plan on eating/kissing/drinking, etc, but this lipstick is all about the feel and look and doesn't claim to be a "stay-put" lipstick, after all.

I was very happy with the application, feel and richness of this lipstick and love how light it feels.

NEW Product Line: Aveeno positively nourishing Hair Care Collection

I love Aveeno because it offers my favourite body lotion of all time so I'm always keen on trying out new Aveeno products. Now, Aveeno has launched a new hair care line.

The Aveeno positively nourishing hair care collection was developed with a team of experts, including a leading dermatologist and hair stylist, in order to create products that help to make hair healthy looking and beautiful, naturally.

Aveeno has captured the natural benefits of Wheat Protein and combined it with advanced science to create the newest Active Naturals technology, Nourishing Wheat Complex, which targets and strengthens damaged hair to make hair less prone to breakage and resistant to future damage.

The Nourishing Wheat Complex formula contains an effective blend of Wheat Germ Oil plus Wheat Protein, which helps replenish lost moisture. While Wheat Protein can readily be found in many hair care products, this cutting-edge complex uses one large, non-hydrolyzed protein polymer, which is by definition not soluble in water and won’t break down with use in water. In scientific testing, the Nourishing Wheat Complex shampoo and conditioner systems showed significantly greater conditioning efficacy versus a non-conditioning shampoo.

positively nourishing MOISTURIZE Shampoo and Conditioner, 310 mL, $8.99 USD
Goes beyond cleansing and conditioning to moisturize dry, damaged hair. Combines the Nourishing Wheat Complex and Hydrating Oat Protein to quickly quench the hair, replenishing vital moisture. Gentle enough for color-treated hair.

positively nourishing VOLUMIZE Shampoo and Conditioner, 310 mL, $8.99 USD
Uses a unique blend of lightweight conditioners to infuse hair with lush, rich body. This exclusive formula, infused with the Nourishing Wheat Complex, plus Anti-Oxidant Blue Lotus Flower, is designed to replenish moisture and amp-up body in fine, hair by replenishing essential moisture and protecting fragile hair from everyday damage. Gentle enough for color-treated hair.

positively nourishing SHINE Shampoo and Conditioner, 310 mL, $8.99 USD
Specifically formulated to replenish moisture and promote shine. Infused with the Nourishing Wheat Complex and shine-enhancing Palm Extract, the SHINE formula smoothes and hydrates to illuminate the dullest hair, giving it shiny, vibrant life. Gentle enough for colour-treated hair.

positively nourishing SOOTHE Shampoo, 310 mL, $8.99 USD
Helps to soothe dry, itchy scalp by calming and soothing the scalp with a combination of the Nourishing Wheat Complex, soothing Lavender and cooling Peppermint. Gentle enough for color-treated hair, the formula addresses the weakest part of hair, fortifying it with protein where it needs it most while soothing the scalp.

positively nourishing CONDITIONING Leave-In Treatment, 153 mL, $8.99 USD
Formulated for intensely dry and extra damaged hair, this Leave-In Treatment works to quench overly-dry hair by giving it an infusion of moisture. Misikko (one of my favourite sites to learn about new hair care tools) wanted to support the Haiti relief efforts and Hana Salon's CEO Steve Voudouris is helping them achieve this goal.

For every Hana that is purchased between January 20 and February 3, Steve will send a $25 blank check to the customer along with a stamped envelope for the customer to send a donation to the charity of their choice. Product Review: Covergirl TRUblend Minerals Blush

Reviewer: Suziesaurus

Brand: Covergirl
Name: : TRUblend Minerals Blush
Size: 8 g
Price: n/a

Shade Tried: Natural Rose

I still use Covergirl's TRUblend Pressed Mineral Foundation, so when I ran out of blush I decided to give their mineral blush a try.

From Covergirl’s website: "Gentle mineral blush gives skin a healthy-looking flush of color. Wear TRUblend Microminerals Blush alone or layered over TRUblend Microminerals Foundation for a naturally flawless look."

To Purr About:
- available in 2 shades
- very light and airy feeling
- affordable price
- comes with a blush brush for application

Claws Out:
- not convenient to carry around for touch-ups
- 3 piece container (blush canister, brush canister and brush) is a bit clumsy
- brush is not very good quality and is very clumsy to hold/use

Final Comments:
I am a huge fan of mineral makeup products. I find that the end result is very polished, but natural look. This product is no exception – it is light and airy and not cakey at all. Also, the colour is very natural and gives me a nice complextion.

I would rather this product not come with a brush as it is bothersome to remove the brush from the brush canister to apply the product. In addition the lack of brush handle makes holding the brush clumsy.

Product Review: ROC CompleteLift Anti-dark Circle Lifting Eye Cream

Reviewer: Suziesaurus

Brand: ROC
Name: : Complete Lift Anti-dark Circle Lifting Eye Cream
Size: 15 ml
Price: n/a

This will be the first time I’ve tried an ROC product. I’ve heard good things about their product line and I am looking for a new eye cream to help me look less tired.

"This high performance cream moisturises and visibly smoothes the eye contour. As you use in daily, your eyelids appear visibly lifted, the appearance of dark circles is reduced, for a bright-eyed look."

To Purr About:
- not oily or greasy
- was a very good base for make-up
- absorbed very quickly into my skin
- very moisturizing
- did not irritate my super sensitive skin

Claws Out:
- no major reduction of the dark circles under my eyes
- if too much product is used it will flake off

Final Comments:
Although I don't have a sagging issue I do use eye creams quite often, especially in the winter, because the area around my eye gets very dry and is quite sensitive. In addition, I'm starting to get dark circles under my eyes due to hectic schedules so I immediately snatched up this product because it had "Anti-dark circle" in its name.

I do love how this product keeps my eye area very nice and moisturized. It absorbed much more quickly than other eye creams I’ve tried which made makeup application easy. Unfortunately I didn’t find it really helped the dark circles under my eyes. A friend suggested that I might have a biased view on this product, because my eye area didn’t need smoothing or lifting, but just brightening. That could be true. I could however appreciate the positives of this product, one being that it would definitely keep my eye area nice and moisturized during the dry winter months.

Product Review: Save Face Body'liscious Body Wash

Reviewer: Suziesaurus

Brand: Save Face
Name: Body'liscious Body Wash
Size: 225 ml / 8 fl oz
Price: $18 CAD

After having success with Save Faces' facial moisturizer I decided to try their Body'liscious body wash.

From the save face website: "We've put our best lather forward with this gentle yet moisturizing body wash. SLS & DEA free, it cleanses thoroughly while not stripping your skin of its natural moisture. Leaves your skin soft and glowing."

To Purr About:
- left skin feeling clean
- lathered up well

Claws Out:
- a little pricey
- not moisturizing enough to combat the winter dryness and my dry skin

Final Comments:
As I mentioned before, I love trying Canadian made products, so I was excited to again try another product made by Save Face which is from Oakville, Ontario.

Although I have never in the past spent more than $10 on body wash, I probably shouldn't cheap out on my body just because it doesn't get as much exposure as my face – but is this product really worth the money? In these hard economical times I need to be more careful where I spend my dollars, so a product will have to rate over 4/5 to warrant the extra money.

As I’ve said before it's a bit hard to rate body washes, since I can never be sure that it's really cleaning, but it did leave my skin feeling clean. Unfortunately I didn't find it was moisturizing enough for my super sensitive skin after continual use and the colder weather that we've been experiencing.

Shiseido buying Bare Escentuals

Today, Tokyo-based Shiseido Co. announced that it's buying San Francisco-based Bare Escentuals Inc. in a $1.7-billion USD deal that is Shiseido's biggest purchase since its founding in 1872.

Bare Escentuals will operate as a separate division of Shiseido.

Both Shiseido and Bare Escentuals are looking for ways to increase their sales to a global audience, so this business move makes sense for both groups. Another bonus for Shiseido is the addition of a popular mineral line to their business.

Product Review: Lise Watier Illuminating Powder

Reviewer: Suziesaurus

Brand: Lise Watier
Name: : Nuits magiques Illuminating Powder
Size: 13 g
Price: $32 CAD

Lise Watier as usual has come out with a sparkling product line which is perfect for the cold season.

"A combination of precious powders to illuminate the face and body. Apply a small amount on the cheeks and forehead or as a luminous halo on the entire face. For the body apply on the décolleté and shoulders for a shimmering veil effect. Paraben free."

To Purr About:
- adds a nice, subtle glamorous glow
- very light (didn’t add another heavy layer to my makeup)

Claws Out:
- doesn’t come with an application tool
- a little too subtle on my skin tone

Final Comments:
I love Lise Watier products, and I definitely love that they come out with holiday centric products like this gem.

I really enjoyed the fact that this product was super light and airy feeling – I could barely even tell it was there so it sat comfortably on top of the rest of my make- up. As for the look, the powder gave my skin a nice little shimmer, and although a bit subtle I still think it does add a nice glow for those wintery parties, so I will definitely be finishing off my make-up routine with this.

Product Review: Body Shop Lip Scuff

Reviewer: Suziesaurus

Brand: The Body Shop
Name: : Lip Scuff
Size: 15 ml
Price: $12 CAD

With winter nipping at our noses, it’s that time of year again which brings back my dreaded dry, chapped flaky lips. In an attempt to combat this problem I picked up The Body Shop’s lip scuff.

"A moisturizing lip care product that gently exfoliates the lips to help remove dead skin cells, leaving the lips feeling smooth, soft and conditioned."

To Purr About:
- I love the peppermint smell of this product
- removes/exfoliates small flakes of skin
- convenient (packaged like a lipstick)
- leaves my lips feeling in great condition

Claws Out:
- must be wiped off immediately after application
- doesn’t get rid of large flakes of skin
- doesn’t help moisturize lips

Final Comments:
Although I think this is very common issue, I haven’t seen too many products on the market that are used to exfoliate chapping or peeling lips.

I really love the Body Shop’s lip scuff. Although it’s not super convenient as it requires to be rubbed off (quite vigorously after use), it’s still great and leaves my lips feeling smoother than before. And since I haven’t tried another similar product I would have to say this is the best in the line.

I still think a great home remedy is to brush the lips lightly with a toothbrush to exfoliate, but this product is great when you’re out and about and just don’t have a toothbrush handy.

Product Review: Olay Quench Therapy Hand Cream

Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten

Brand: Olay
Name: : Quench Therapy Hand Cream
Size: 120 g
Price: $10 CAD

Olay has an entire Quench Therapy line to deal with dry skin, and the hand cream is "Olay's fastest relief hand cream for extremely dry, itchy skin".

I've noticed that many brands now have a dedicated hand cream (Neutrogena, Olay, etc) and it's no wonder - our hands take quite a beating and are often exposed to the elements more often than any other part of our body, not to mention all the work they do!

My hands have been really dry lately, so it was the perfect time to put this hand cream to the test.

To Purr About:
- instantly made my hands feel moisturized and less dry
- absorbed very quickly and didn't leave any greasy after-feel
- I only used a little but it was sufficient

Claws Out:
- has an odd smell that I can't quite describe - kind of a rubbery-flower smell - but it's very faint
- skin, although moisturized, wasn't left feeling "silky soft"

Final Comments:
I was impressed by how quickly the cream moisturized my hands - it was almost instantaneous. Only a little bit did the job. The faint scent was a little weird, but not strong enough to bother me. The amount of cream, and how little you need to use, is a great deal at the price, compared to most other deep-moisturizing hand creams.

The only other thing is that although it doesn't leave your hands "silky smooth" like some other creams, my hands weren't dry at all, which meant that the cream did its job.

Product News: Naturally Fresh Deodorant Crystal rolls out 8 new products

Naturally Fresh Deodorant Crystal, a 100% natural alternative to conventional deodorants, has just rolled out 8 new products in 4 fresh scents.

The new lineup includes the Naturally Fresh Deodorant Crystal Roll-On and Spray Mist formulas in Ocean Breeze, Honeydew Mellon, Lavender and Papaya Fusion.

"Our new scented products offer yet another option for those seeking a more natural, healthy lifestyle or for those allergic to conventional deodorants," said Ted Alflen, CEO and founder of Naturally Fresh Deodorant Crystal. "Like all of our product line, the new scented Roll-On and Spray Mist formulas are extremely gentle, yet amazingly effective with 24-hour protection."

Naturally Fresh Deodorant Crystal has long been the top recommended deodorant choice of allergists, dermatologists and oncologists. Unlike most deodorant brands, Naturally Fresh Deodorant contains no harmful aluminums or parabens.

The products function as natural deodorants that kill odor-causing bacteria while permitting the pores to excrete toxins naturally. This is vital to maintain healthy, axillary lymph nodes located in the underarm area.

All Naturally Fresh Deodorant Crystal products can be purchased online at or at select locations, including Walmart, CVS, GNC, Kroger, Publix, Whole Foods Market and Amazon.com. For a complete list of retailers, visit Naturally Fresh Deodorant online.

Happy New Year!

Hey Cinnamon Kitten readers!

Happy, happy new year! I'm really looking forward to 2010 and all that the new year will hopefully bring.

As you may have noticed, Cinnamon Kitten has a new look! I had been fiddling around with layouts back in December and had one I liked, but unfortunately, it didn't show up well in Foxfire or Chrome (which I use) but I didn't notice until last week. So I spent a few days trying out a few other layouts and have settled on this one. I hope you like it!

Anyhow, I had a really relaxing holiday and am looking forward to the new year. I hope all of you are refreshed, happy, healthy and ready to face 2010!
