Product Review: Philosophy The Microdelivery Face Wash
Reviewer: Annabella from Skin Scrubs
Brand: Philosophy
Name: The Microdelivery Face Wash
Size: 8 fl oz
Price: approx. $26 CAD
I was introduced to The Microdelivery Face Wash while I was in Cleveland, Ohio for my second wedding. I packed just about every beauty product I owned when I went back home except I forgot to pack face wash (which is quite essential, yes). Lela didn't live far from the hotel we were staying at so I borrowed hers for a few days while I was there.
This is an exfoliating, foaming facial wash that can be used everyday. The 'scrubby bits' are very fine so they don't scratch, and it doesn't have much of a smell which was fine for me as I put so many fragranced things on my body anyway. I have oily skin and I get breakouts on my chin and this really helped keep them at bay which is pretty amazing considering the amount of stress I was under. James, my husband, used it too, and I think he likes it because again it doesn't smell fruity/floral and just makes your skin feel clean and refreshed. The bottle also states you can use this as 30-second mini peel but I just used it as a normal face wash.
To Purr About:
- convenient easy to use flip top lid
- don't need much to get good lather
- lasts several months
- face feels lovely and smooth afterwards
Claws Out:
- pricey for a face wash
Final Comments:
If you have dry skin or live in a dry climate this might irritate your face. It's says it gentle for everyday use but I personally think that it is for oily skins only. I've just finished my bottle and I wouldn't re-buy this again until the warmer months because even though my skin is normally oil, it has dried up a bit with the winter weather. I used it everyday with no problem while I was on honeymoon in Aruba but unfortunately I don't live there!

- Oil-Free

To Purr About:
- convenient pump dispenser
- nice clean scent that isn’t too strong
- leaves skin feeling clean and refreshed
- doesn’t dry out skin
- doesn’t irritate my super sensitive skin
- affordable
Claws Out:
- none really
Final Comments:
I was interested in trying Biore’s Combination Skin Balancing Cleanser because I’m always looking for a good cleanser for my dry skin that is affordable, but does the job.
My first impression of this product is the nice simple, no frills bottle. It has a convenient pump dispenser that really comes in handy in the shower and in the sink. The cleanser is a cream based (not foamy) and has a crisp clean scent that is not floral or sweet, but more of a traditional cleanser scent. It applies and rinses off easily and leaves skin feeling clean and refreshed.
I’ve been using this cleanser for a couple of months now and it’s quite nice. For a good price it does what it says – cleans and doesn’t strip my skin of its natural moisture.

Product Review: Montagne Jeunesse Verry Berry Face Masque
Reviewer: Suziesaurus
Brand: Montagne Jeunesse
Name: Verry Berry Face Masque
Size: 15g / 0.5 oz
Price: $1.99 CAD

Where to buy: http://www.farleyco.ca
What it says on their site:
Bursting with the juice of pressed Blueberries and crushed Cranberries our fruity beauty is packed with antioxidants. Nourishing Peach Kernel oil and soothing Aloe will leave your skin refreshed and cleansed.
To Purr About:
- conveniently packaged for 1 time use
- relaxing berry scent
- didn’t irritate my super sensitive skin
- left my skin feeling very clean, refreshed and moisturized
- you get plenty of product in 1 package
- very affordable
Claws Out:
- none really
Final Comments:
When I can't make it to the spa (or I can't afford to) I really try to find things at home that I can do to pamper myself. And because I can't always find time to take a soothing bath, I find sitting back with a face mask to be quite relaxing. I was super excited to try Montagne Jeunesse's Very Berry Face masque. They come conveniently packaged for onetime use and there are so many by Montagne Jeunesse to try!
I really enjoyed this product. When I first started applying the product I noticed how generous a portion comes in each package. There is plenty of product to cover the face and neck, so you don’t have to worry about how much you're applying.

After applying it to my face I sat back & enjoyed the wonderful (but not overpowering) berry scent. The mask left my skin feeling clean, refreshed, relaxed and most importantly – moisturized. It was a perfect little pick-me-up for the weekend before the work week started.
Lastly, because these convenient packages are so affordable, you can try different masks without spending a fortune or committing to one in particular.

Product Review: Olay Oil Minimizing Toner

Brand: Olay
Name: : Oil Minimizing Toner
Size: 212 ml / 7.2 fl oz
Price: approx. $6 CAD
Many years ago, I went on a hunt for a great toner and found one in the Neutrogena Oil-Free Toner, which I haven't deviated from in over 10 years (some habits are hard to give up). So, whenever I try a new toner, I can't help but compare it to my favrourite to see how it measures up.
Now, in the past few years, I've also discovered how great Olay products are, so I was pretty excited to try the Olay Oil Minimizing Toner.
To Purr About:
- toner is very effective in removing make-up and leaving skin feeling clean
- make-up came off easily
- not too drying on skin
Claws Out:
- in the bottle, the product has a soapy smell
- during use, the product as a very strong alcohol smell
Final Comments:
All in all, the toner really does the job well. It removes dirt and makeup quickly and easily, without too much tugging. It also left my skin feeling very fresh and clean, without feeling too stripped or dry.
The only problem I have with this product is that it has alcohol in it (which is weird since it doesn't dry out my skin like other alcohol-based products). The alcohol-smell is pretty overpowering.
I don't think that the performance of this product is great enough that I can overlook the alcohol content.

Product Review: Olay Acne Control Face Wash
Brand: Olay
Name: Acne Control Face Wash
Size: 200 ml
Price: approx. $8.00 CAD
From Olay’s website: "Enjoy consistently clear skin with this salicylic acid acne
cleanser that helps eliminate most acne blemishes.
- Immediately minimizes excess oil and impurities that can clog pores
- Dual Hydroxy Complex fights blemishes and helps prevent future breakouts"
To Purr About:
- nice subtle scent
- very gentle on skin
- doesn’t dry out my skin
- leaves skin feeling clean and soft
- convenient pump dispenser (that can lock closed)
- nice consistency
- kept acne away
Claws Out:
- none really
Final Comments:
I’ve been using Olay’s Acne Control Face Wash for a couple of months now and
I’m quite pleased with it. I have oily skin so I appreciate that this cleanser is oil
free.
The first thing I noticed about this product immediately was the pleasant smell
that was subtle and not too overpowering. I really enjoy how gentle this cleanser
is on my skin and how clean it leaves my face feeling. The consistency is also
good (not too thick and not too watery) and lathering it over my face and washing
it off are both very easy. Although I’m not as prone to acne as I was in my
younger days it has kept my acne away which is nice.
Lastly it comes with a nice convenient pump dispenser that makes mornings
even easier.

Product Review: Olay Regenerist Micro-Exfoliating Wet Cleansing Cloths

Brand: Olay
Name: : Regenerist Micro-Exfoliating Wet Cleansing
Cloths
Size: 30 wet textured cloths
Price: approx. $16 CAD
From Olay’s website: “Regenerate skin’s surface as you cleanse, for a face that looks and feels visibly smoother.
- Removes dirt and make-up
- Exfoliates to speed natural regeneration of skin's surface”
To Purr About:
- convenient and great for travelling
- clothes are pre-moistened, so they do not require water
- very gentle on skin and did not irritate me super sensitive skin
- do not dry out skin
Claws Out:
- doesn’t seal well – which can cause product to dry out
- do not find they exfoliate very well
Final Comments:
When summer rolls around that usually means weekend getaways and camping, and I’m always looking for creative ways to keep my skin feeling clean and fresh on the go. On a recent trip out of the city I packed these Olay Regenerist Micro-exfoliating wet cleaning cloths with me to start trying them out.
After using these for about two weeks now, I found them to be a great solution for keeping the skin clean and fresh when you’re either away from home or too lazy to wash your face. Since they are wet clothes and do not require water to activate them they are great to pack for camping trips and are super convenient.
I’m not sure how well this product was removing dirt from my face and did not find them very exfoliating, but they did leave my face feeling very moisturized and refreshed.
My only major complaint was that as a result of the way I ripped the label off (I’m pretty sure I followed the instructions) I didn’t find the seal for the package that
good, which meant they would dry out sooner or later. It wasn’t a huge deal for me since I used the whole pack in about 2 weeks, but I couldn’t save them for my next trip.
I would probably buy this product again, but more for a travelling companion and
not an everyday sort of thing.

Product Review: Olay Skin Smoothing Cream Scrub

Brand: Olay
Name: : Skin Smoothing Cream Scrub
Size: 177 ml / 6 fl oz
Price: approx. $10 CAD
"Deep cleans, gently exfoliates to rejuvenate, leaving skin radiant and noticeably smooth. Conditioning beta-hydroxy formula with microbeads. Dermatologist tested and oil-free."
To Purr About:
- light, creamy scrub with tiny beads
- scrubbing particles were pretty gentle and didn't scratch or hurt skin
- after use, skin didn't feel dry and did feel clean and smooth
- a little goes a long way
Claws Out:
- slightly drying for those with already dry or sensitive skin
Final Comments:
This scrub left my skin feeling clean and smooth and not too dry, although I'm used to putting on moisturizer after cleaning my face so it didn't really bother me. For those with skin that's on the dry or sensitive side, you may feel it dries your skin out a touch too much.
For me, I liked the light creaminess and gently scrubbers. This cream is very light and easily worked in. It's not greasy at all and washed off very easily, leaving nothing on the skin - no oily residue, not scrubbing particles, nothing which is really nice.
The amount that you need to give your face a good scrubbing is very little, making this a pretty good deal as you get a fairly good sized tube for $10.

Product Review: Olay Dual Action Cleanser + Pore Scrub
Brand: Olay
Name: : Dual Action Cleanser + Pore Scrub
Size: 150 ml / 5.0 fl oz
Price: approx. $12 CAD
From their website: "Cleanses and exfoliates with a 2-in-1 foaming formula that helps minimize the appearance of pores.
- Removes two times more dirt and make-up than basic cleansing
- Exfoliates to refine skin and help minimize the appearance of pores
- Oil-free formula”
To Purr About:
- provides exfoliation
- leaves skin feeling refreshed and clean
Claws Out:
- have to be super careful not to get product in eyes
- exfoliating particles are not beads & can be a bit rough
- doesn’t help fight acne
- didn’t really help minimize the appearance of my pores
- pump dispenser can make quite a mess
Final Comments:
I love trying Olay products and I have been using this product twice a day for the last few months.
I think this product might be a good cleanser for those that are not prone to acne, but I am and although I haven’t had any breakouts since using this product I do seem to be getting more zits that usual.
I really enjoy the subtle scent and the way it leaves my skin feeling, but I am super careful not to get this product in my eye as I’m pretty sure it would cause major irritation if I did.
Lastly, I found the exfoliating particles a bit rough and scratchy for my sensitive skin. I would rate this product an average overall.

Product News: New Chella Hydrating Cleanser

Name: Hydrating Cleanser Lush Balm
Size: 100 g / 3.5 oz
Price: $50 USD
Chella's new Hydrating Cleanser has a balm-like consistency and adds moisture to your skin and acts as a great makeup remover.
This hydrating cleanser suppports skin's fragile, all important lipid barrier to keep hydration in while removing make-up, oils and skin impurities. Upon contact with warm water, this balm cleanser transforms into a light, citrus-scented emulsion that's easily rinsed off.
With an olive oil base, this cleanser works as a natural oil solubilizer with an ability to attract oils and break down makeup residue. Olive Fruit Oil, which contains a high level of monounsaturated fatty acids and vitamin E, moisturizes and lubricates dry and dehydrated skin, while limonene, a citrus essential oil high in vitamins C and E, cleanses.

Product Review: Olay Refreshing Toner
Brand: Olay
Name: : Refreshing Toner
Size: 212 ml / 7.2 fl oz
Price: approx. $6 CAD
From their website: “Refreshing Toner is a low-alcohol,ndermatologist-tested formula containing aloe and witch hazel that cleans and refreshes without overdrying. Cleans by removing dirt, oil and makeup without stripping skin's essential moisture. Refreshes, leaving skin feeling cool and wonderfully fresh. Tones gently with a mild formula with added aloe and witch hazel.”
To Purr About:
- inexpensive
- removes dirt
- cooling sensation is very refreshing
Claws Out:
- bottle opening is large with makes spillage probable
- stings a bit
- super strong alcohol smell
Final Comments:
I`ve had pretty good experience with Olay products, so I was enthusiastic to try their toner and facial wash.
I was surprised when I started using this product that it had such a strong alcohol scent as they mention it is a “low-alcohol” product. I’m skeptical how low in alcohol content it is as alcohol is listed as the second ingredient on the package. It also stung a lot when I got some in my eye.
Other than that it seems like a good and inexpensive toner. Nothing fancy, but toners usually aren’t. It seems to strip skin of any extra dirt and leaves the skin feeling nice and refreshed which is good.

Product Review: Olay Foaming Face Wash
Brand: Olay
Name: : Foaming Face Wash
Size: 200 mL / 6.78 fl. oz.
Price: approx. $8 CAD
From their website: “Gently cleanse away dirt, oil and make-up without over-drying skin.
- Cleanses skin
- Helps skin retain its natural moisture
- Contains oil-free moisturizers”
To Purr About:
- convenient dispensing pump that can be locked-off
- very gentle on my skin
- leaves skin feeling moisturized and silky
- affordable price
Claws Out:
- leaves a residue feeling on skin after rinsing
- doesn’t fight acne / oily skin
Final Comments:
I’ve been using Olay’s Foaming Face Wash for a few weeks now and although I enjoy how gentle it is on my skin, it might be too gentle. Meaning my skin (which is oily type) is still very oily. I’ve tried many face washes and would prefer one that helps fight the oiliness a bit more. I don’t know if this is the best choice for people with oily or acne prone skin.
That being said I think this is a great product for people with normal to dry skin. It leaves my skin feeling very silky and moisturized, has a nice subtle scent and comes in a super convenient pump dispenser.

Product Review: The Body Shop Mango Shower Gel
Brand: The Body Shop
Name: : Mango Shower Gel
Size: 250 mL / 8.4 fl oz
Price: approx. $13 CAD
From their website: "Best if you want to: Revive your senses in the bath or shower as you cleanse your skin using a moisture-rich gel with the sweet, exotic scent of mango.
Best for: very dry skin
How it works: Mango seed extract helps to soften and moisturize skin without it feeling greasy. The soap-free formulation is less drying to the skin than soap."
To Purr About:
- lathers up very well
- subtle fruity scent that isn’t overpowering
- rinses clean
- refreshing and fresh
Claws Out:
- not super moisturizing
- a bit pricey
Final Comments:
When I first squeezed this product on to my loofa I was a bit hesitant as it
seemed thinner than other body washes I’ve tried and figured I’d need to use a
ton each time, but was pleasantly surprised at how well it lathered up. A little of
this mango shower gel goes a long way, so perhaps the slightly higher price point
balances out in the end.
I found the scent of this product very nice and refreshing – not overpowering.
The only thing really negative I can come up with for this product is it’s not quite
as moisturizing as my skin needs in the harsh winter conditions. However, I
would recommend this product for people with normal skin.

Product Review: Lise Watier HydraSmart 3D Hydration Metamorphosis Cleansing Gelée

Brand: Lise Watier
Name: : HydraSmart 3D Hydration Metamorphosis Cleansing Gelée
Size: 150 ml
Price: approx. $24 CAD
From the press release:
A healthy, radiant skin starts with cleansing formulas that are adapted to skin type.
The 3D Hydration Metamorphosis Cleansing Gelee of the Hydrasmart line has been specifically formulated for dry skin. This formula stands out because of its metamorphic texture that transforms twice rather than once, for an experience that is twice as soothing and comforting. From a cleansing gelée, it turns into an ultra-fine oil when massaged on skin, and then into a creamy emulsion upon contact with water.
Enriched with antioxidant blue lotus extract and moisturizing peptides, the soap-free formula of the 3D Hydration Metamorphosis Cleansing Gelee gently removes makeup and impurities, leaving skin perfectly cleansed, velvety-soft and comfortable.
To Purr About:
- soap and paraben free
- very gentle on the skin
- keeps skin clean and acne free and healthy feeling
- did not irritate my super sensitive sking
Claws Out:
- stiff tube packaging made it very difficult to get product out
Final Comments:
I used this product for a while and found it to be a very effective cleanser. While it does have an interesting gel texture that did turn into a creamy emulsion when put in contact with water I was more impressed with how super duper gentle it was on my skin, but removed dirt and kept skin problem free. My only complaint is that the packaging made it super difficult to get the product out – a softer plastic would have been preferred as it would have made for an easier time and also less wasted product in the end.

Product Review: Simple Kind To Skin Purifying Cleansing Lotion

Reviewer: Suziesaurus
Brand: Simple
Name: : Kind To Skin Purifying Cleansing Lotion
Size: 200 mL
Price: approx. $5 CAD
From their website: "Drier skin will benefit from this creamy Kind To Skin Purifying Cleansing Lotion which gives a gentle, thorough cleanse, even around the delicate eye area.
- Pro-Vitamin B5 restores, softens and smoothes
- Added moisturisers improve skin condition
- pH balanced so works in harmony with your skin"
To Purr About:
- very gentle on my super sensitive skin
- no scent
- easy to use
- leaves skin feeling very moisturized
- works great as a gentle make-up remover
Claws Out:
- states that it provides a gentle cleanse around the delicate eye area, but cautions against getting it near the delicate eye area on the bottle
- doesn’t cleanse as well as other cleansers that require washing off
Final Comments:
I’ve had the chance to try Simple’s Kind To Skin Cleansing wipes which I really enjoyed, so I was excited to give their cleansing lotion a whirl.
I find it very foreign to cleanse without having to rinse afterwards (except when using those handy wipes), so that took a little getting used to.
In the end I found that although a great on-the go solution to having cleaner skin I still prefer cleansers that wash off. It definitely worked to remove some dirt and make-up, but I don’t think it was as affective as other cleansers that require washing off. I’m not sure if that’s just my bias though. I still like this product as it’s great when I’m going from work to evening and need a quick freshening up before I apply evening make-up.

Product Review: Olay Body Wash plus Sheer Moisture Ribbons
Brand: Olay
Name: : Body Wash plus Sheer Moisture Ribbons
Size: 295 ml
Price: approx. $7 CAD
From Olay’s website: "Olay Sheer Moisture Ribbons leaves you with weightlessly moisturized, beautiful skin. This cleanser infused with mandarin oil and a ribbon of rich moisturizers will lightly indulge every inch of your body. Enjoy the subtle fragrance inspired by mandarin blossom with every shower."
To Purr About:
- lathers up well
- leaves skin feeling clean and moisturized
- did not irritate my super sensitive skin
Claws Out:
- not too of the scent
Final Comments:
I have had good experiences with Olay’s Botanical Fusion Body Washes, so my expectations were
After using Olay's Sheer Moisture Ribbons body wash for weeks, I have to say that although I am quite happy with it, I actually prefer their Botanical Fusion line. Although the Ribbons product did lather up well and leave my skin feeling moisturized and clean it didn`t leave my skin as moisturized as the Fusion line.

Product Review: Softsoap Pure Cashmere Body Wash
Brand: Softsoap
Name: : Pure Cashmere Body Wash
Size: 532 mL
Price: approx. $6 CAD
From the website:
- Enriched with cashmere extract and moisturizing cream, leaving skin soft, smooth and irresistible to the touch
- Silky soft formula is proven to soften and hydrate as it cleans
- Special formula features our latest body wash technology
To Purr About:
- lathers up really well
- left skin feeling clean, fresh and healthy
- sweet, but not overpowering smell
Claws Out:
- doesn’t leave skin feeling super moisturized
Final Comments:
I have used Softsoap liquid hand soap many times before, but this is the first time I’ve tried their body wash.
I was quite impressed with this product. Although it wasn’t the best body wash I’ve ever used, it ranked somewhere in the middle and you definitely get a lot for what you pay. It lathers up very well, so only a little product is necessary making the bottle last longer.
This body wash left my skin feeling very clean and fresh, but unfortunately not super moisturized. All-in-all I think it’s a good body wash which will suit people that don’t suffer from extremely dry skin.
