Product Review: thi Lip Gloss
Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten
Brand: thi
Name: Lip Gloss
Size: 4.5 g
Price: $17 USD
Shade Tried: Kanya
I was recently introduced to a new line of cosmetics called thi. Created by Asian American Taylor Pham, this cosmetic line celebrates Asian beauty and the colours are all designed to flatter yellow undertones and have been specifically chosen to complement Asian complexions.
The Lip Gloss comes in five lovely shades and is "enriched with luminescent sparkles", helping lips to "appear fuller, shinier and more defined".
To Purr About:
- lovely, glossy formula with lots of shine
- Kanya is a beautiful, nude shade that goes really well with my Asian colouring
- easy, sponge applicator in a cute tube
- no off-putting smell or super-fruity fragrance added
Claws Out:
- a little pricey for the size
- gloss is a little thicker than I would prefer
Final Comments:
I have always had trouble finding a nice, beige/nude shade for my skin tone. I have naturally dark lips so many nude lipsticks just end up looking kind of pink. This lip gloss, however, doesn't. It looks gorgeous. The colour is very subtle, with lots of shine, but doesn't look too slick. I love the way it looks on my lips! It's thicker than most glosses so the colour stays true after application.
I'm super impressed with this lip gloss and am excited to try other thi products.

Product Review: Anastasia Eye Lights Shimmer
(One of my great regular reviewers, S.K.Y. is now reviewing under the name Suziesaurus)
Reviewer: Suziesarus
Brand: Anastasia
Name: Eye Lights Shimmer
Size: 2.8 g / 0.1 oz
Price: approximately $21 USD
This product was actually part of the Anastasia Five Item Brow Kit that Cinnamon Kitten previously reviewed. After checking out the Anastasia website I realized that the creator of the line, Anastasia Soare, was featured for an episode of “Women on Top” that I watched.
The Application Tips from the website:
* Apply directly underneath the eyebrow along the brow bone and blend with finger.
* After sharpening, use as a liner underneath the eye, inside the water line of the eye, to brighten and open up the eye.
* May be applied over an eye shadow for a glossy look.
* For a flirty look, apply the shimmer pencil over a lipstick.
* May be applied along the cheek bone for added radiance to the skin.
To Purr About:
- glides on effortlessly
- easy to blend
- convenient to carry around for touchups
- lasts pretty much all day
- looks very natural
- it’s great that you can buy each item of the Five Item Brow Kit separately to fit your needs and budget
Claws Out:
- a little pricey
Final Comments:
I didn’t know there were so many products out there tailored to eyebrows.
I love that this product replaces my highlighting eye shadow shade compact and brush. It is so much more convenient, especially when I’m traveling. And it blends super well. I was a little hesitant when I first applied it as it looked a bit harsh, but the moment I started to blend with my fingertips I was thrilled at the ease.
It was so light and airy I barely even knew it was there! Looks like I’ve got a new staple to my makeup case!

Product Review: The Body Shop Sheer Lip Shine
Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten
Brand: The Body Shop
Name: Sheer Lip Shine
Size: 2.1 g / 0.07 oz
Price: $14.50 CAD
Shade Tried: 01 Sheer Pink
Although I've used many products from The Body Shop line before, I've never tried their cosmetics. So the last time I was in The Body Shop I picked up a lip gloss to try.
The Body Shop Sheer Lip Shines are "a beautiful range of luxurious moisturizing lipsticks that offer sheer colour coverage with a high shine finish and a sweet scent on application." (from The Body Shop web site)
To Purr About:
- very soft, moisturizing formula just glides on the lips easily
- colour is sheer (although I tried a light colour, so I'm not sure how sheer the darker shades are)
- light, sweet fragrance
- nice glossy shine
- formula isn't thick and is great for summer
Claws Out:
- light formula disappears off the lips pretty quickly
Final Comments:
Considering the lipstick doesn't last very long and needs to be re-applied quite often, I've been going through this lipstick pretty quickly. So for me, $14.50 is a lot to pay for a lipgloss, but it's really nice. And it's available in 8 really pretty shades, so I am tempted to go back and try a few others (like Strawberry and Sheer Ruby.
Rating (out of 5):

Product Review: Clean & Clear Soft Purifying Cleanser
Reviewer: babycAt
Brand: Clean & Clear
Name: Soft Purifying Cleanser
Size: 141 g
Price: approximately $10 CAD
According to the Clean & Clear web site, this product "is designed to cleanse, purify and soften young skin to keep it looking beautiful, clear and healthy looking now and in the future. While trying to achieve a flawless complexion teens typically over-dry their faces by cleansing with harsh ingredients that strip skin of essential moisture and nourishment. Now there is a product formulated specifically for their young skin...a foaming face scrub that cleanses and exfoliates while moisturizing skin to combat dryness."
To Purr About:
- I like the exfoliating beads in it, it's not too rough on the skin and you can use it everyday without skin feeling dry
- it works as a light make up remover
- it does leave the skin really soft!
Claws Out:
- it hasn't visibly shown to heal acne
Final Comments:
It's a good exfoliating cleanser for day and night useage if you have no acne.

Product Review: Pop Beauty Lip Lust
Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten
Brand: Pop
Name: Lip Lust
Size: 0.13 oz
Price: approximately $15 CAD
Shade Tried: No 1 Naughty Red
Pop Beauty is a fun and flirty line that's filled with cute colours, and products including lipsticks, eyeshadows and face powders.
The lipstick is slightly shorter than the average lipstick height, but the tube is sooooo pretty. It's a lovely shade of very pale blue covered with lovely purple blossoms.
On Sephora's site, this lipstick claims it is "a super-hydrating lipstick that comes in bright, sheer color-popping shades that also contain nourishing vitamin E and lip plumping ingredients."
I had to put aside my crush on the packaging before I could focus on the lipstick itself!
To Purr About:
- when I took the cap off the tube I was a little shocked at how RED the colour looked, but upon application, the colour is actually sheer and not as intense as the lipstick
- very light formula, doesn't weigh down lips
- glides on smoothly, very hydating feel
- the red is very flattering
Claws Out:
- none really except that I wish it came in more than four shades (Naughty Red, Flirty Fuschia, Dewy Toffee and Petal Pink).
Final Comments:
This is one time that the product was as good as it's cover. I adore the packaging of this lipstick - it's so cute and different! And the lipstick inside is just as adorable. Sheer and moisturizing, it's a great product. One layer gives you a sheer hint of colour and two or more layers really builds up the colour and makes it intense, which I love, as it's easy to build a different look really quickly. I just wish it came in a larger range of colours, as only four shades does limit a girl's options!

Product Review: CoverGirl Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers Lipgloss
Reviewer: S.K.Y.
Brand: CoverGirl
Name: Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers Lipgloss
Size: 13 mL
Price: Approx. $8 CAD
My lips are very sensitive and dry, so I am always on the lookout for new lip products to use. Seeing as it is finally summer I figured it was time to find a fun lipgloss for the season.
From Covergirl’s website: "Pamper your lips with fresh, fruity flavor, a burst of shine and the smooth feel of a lip balm! Each pocket-sized tube of Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers has a conditioning formula, with botanical ingredients, helps improve lip condition over time and lock in moisture for hours."
To Purr About:
- available in 12 fun and beautiful shades
- subtle watermelon scent/taste
- not too sticky or heavy
Claws Out:
- does not improve lip condition over time
- difficult to get even look (difficult to control flow)
- doesn't last very long
- dried out my lips a tiny bit
Final Comments:
I was looking for a nice summer lipgloss and didn’t really expect this product to improve my lip condition over time so I wasn’t horribly disappointed when it didn’t deliver on that claim. I was impressed by the fact that this product didn’t dry out my lips as much as I expected as I have very sensitive lips. I do wish it would last a bit longer though. Overall I would say it’s a pretty good, affordable lipgloss and wouldn’t mind trying out the other colours – I just have to master applying the lipgloss without a mirror as it’s a bit tricky to get an even look with my amateur skills.

Product Review: Skinn Cosmetics Wet Shine Lip Gloss
Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten
Brand: Skinn Cosmetics
Name: Wet Shine Lip Gloss
Size: 14 ml / 0.5 oz
Price: approximately $12.50 USD
Shade Tried: Garnet
Skinn Cosmetics was launched in 2002 by professional make-up artist Dimitri James, who has over 20 years of experience working with the largest cosmetic companies in the world. Offered through TV home shopping networks, the internet and exclusive, privately-owned spas and salons, Skinn strives to deliver the highest quality product at an affordable price.
The Lip Gloss comes in 14 different shades and includes "Vitamin E, Soy and Aloe to soothe even the driest lips".
To Purr About:
- lovely, fragrant, almost fruity, smell
- lip gloss is light, and not sticky or greasy feeling
- has a nice colour that isn't too heavy
- lips feel moisturized
Claws Out:
- would love it if this cosmetics line was more readily available
Final Comments:
This is a great lip gloss - light, very shiny and with a hint of colour. My only complaint is that, unless you live near one of the "exclusive, privately owned spas/salons", you need to order this product either through the home shopping programs or online (at www.skinncosmetics.com), which means you need to may shipping (and Canadians probably need to add taxes and import duties to that), which increases the price tag of this lip gloss.

NEW Product Line: Sephora Tricks of the Trade Collection
"Sephora's new line of must-haves puts the secret tips and tricks of the backstage pros at your fingertips." (description from Sephora site)
I'm a huge fan of Sephora the store, but haven't tried too many products from Sephora the brand. I may pick up a few of these just to give them a try, but for most of these products, I already have a "tried and true" favourite, but who knows, perhaps Sephora has come up with a better alternative!
The prices are a little high, but not in comparison to some other, more popular brands.

A highlighting makeup base that brightens and beautifies the skin. The pink pearlescent micro-particles and soft-focus pigments reflect the light for a radiant complexion. Ensures easier makeup application for ultimate long-lasting wear.
Anti-Shine Primer, 1 oz, $21 CAD
An anti-shine skin primer for the face. Preps skin to expertly hold foundation and mattifies skin for up to eight hours, controlling and balancing sebum production. It guarantees that your makeup stays fresh and colour-true. It's suitable for both combination and oily skin types.
Makeup Setting Mist, 1.6 oz, $14 CAD

I'm a huge fan of Sephora the store, but haven't tried too many products from Sephora the brand. I may pick up a few of these just to give them a try, but for most of these products, I already have a "tried and true" favourite, but who knows, perhaps Sephora has come up with a better alternative!
The prices are a little high, but not in comparison to some other, more popular brands.
FACE

Product Review: Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25
Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten
Brand: Jack Black
Name: Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25 with Lemon & Chamomile
Size: 7 g / 0.25 oz
Price: approximately $7 USD
Building on the success of their Intense Therapy Lip Balm with Natural Mint & Shea Butter, Jack Black introduces their Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25 with Lemon & Chamomile.
I'm very particular about Lip Balms and find that I'm more picky about balms than I am with lipsticks/lip glosses. This new product looked promising as it promised to be gentle ("fragrance-free, colourant-free, dermatologist-tested") but nourishing at the same time.
All too often, lip balms just disappear without delivering any of the moisturizing or healing properties that they promise.
To Purr About:
- I LOVE the smell of this lip blam - it's a sweet, lemon smell (slightly reminds me of a lemon-meringue pie). My husband commented on the nice smell as well.
- easy applicator helps the gel-like balm glide on
- soft formula glided on easily without feeling too greasy or being too watery
- balm was thick enough to last for a long time
- my lips actually did feel much more moisturized after application
- there's no colour but there is a slight shimmer to it, so I could wear it without any lip colour and it still looked nice
Claws Out:
- no major issues
- the price tag is a little high for a lip balm (for me anyway)
Final Comments:
I love this lip balm, although the price tag is a little high for it to become my regular tote-along lip balm. But whenever my lips need an extra boost of moisture, this would definitely be one that I'd reach for. I also appreciate the SPF 25, which makes it a great summer-time lip treat.
This lip balm is available at places like Sephora, Nordstrom or online at www.getjackblack.com.

Heaven knows I have too many bags, but really, what's one more? I still don't have as many bags as I have lipsticks (ok, I do admit bags take up more space!)
Anyhow, a fabulously cute new blog I've just discovered is having a purse giveaway and I'm helping to spread the word. Go check out Now Entering Momville and enter to win a midnight blue Elliot Lucca bag!
It's really simple to enter - just leave a comment mentioning the bag that you're carrying now (or 3, in my case). Seriously, over the course of one day I can carry up to 4 different bags - it's crazy.
Good luck!

Product Review: Malibu Secret
Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten
Brand: Malibu Secret
Name: Body Treatment
Size: 7.25 oz
Price: approximately $25 USD
There are many products on the market that focus on anti-aging for your face - but what about your body? That's what Malibu Secret asks. They've created a body cream that addresses this issue:
Designed to repair and replenish using a potent combination of botanicals, anti-oxidants, various butters, and a multitude of vitamins, the product claims to:
- improve skin suppleness and texture
- Promote free radical protection
- Intensely hydrate and moisturize
Although I can't really say much about the anti-aging properties, I did put my favourite body moisturizer on hold for the past few weeks to give Malibu Secret a try.
To Purr About:
- super moisturizing
- besides using it regularly as a skin cream, I slathered some on a particularly rough patch of skin I've developed on my knee that my regular cream wasn't smoothing out. Withing 2 days, the scaly skin was gone
- although the cream is rich and thick, it still absorbs very quickly and doesn't leave any greasy after-feel
Claws Out:
- a little expensive compared to other body creams
- I find the smell a little too floral
Final Comments:
Again, I can't say if the anti-aging claims work or not, but as a moisturizer, this cream really does do a great job. It's thick and moisturizing, but still absorbs quickly and is pretty light. Although the scent is pleasant, I would prefer a fragrance-free version as I found it competed too much with my perfume.
If you'd like to try this out for yourself, you can buy directly online at http://www.malibusecret.com/.

Product Review: eyeeco tranquileyes Chronic Dry Eye TE Kit
Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten
Brand: eyeeco
Name: Tranquileyes Chronic Dry Eye TE Kit
Size: n/a
Price: approximately $59 USD
I've been wearing glasses since the fourth grade and as soon as I was old enough, I switched to contacts. Unfortunately, I often find I can't wear my contacts several days in a row as my eyes get irritated and dry. So when I was offered the chance to try out the Tranquileyes Therapy syste by eyeeco, I jumped at the chance.
Available through doctor's offices, high-end spas/resorts or direct from the company online (www.eyeeco.com), there are several different Kits, depending on which problem you'd like to combat most (dry eyes, puffy eye, age defense, travel, etc).
I tried the Kit for Chronic Dry Eyes with ThermoEyes and tried both the Heat Therapy and the Cold Therapy. Although you can sleep with the mask, I opted for using the hourly treatments.
The kit includes:
- a pair of tranquileyes goggles
- 1 spare set of foam replacements
- 1 set of Blue instant thermoeyes
- 1.0 fl oz Foam for Cleanser
- net bag for dryin
- travel sack
To Purr About:
- I love being able to use both heat and cold therapies, depending on what I wanted to "pamper" my eyes for
- I found with regular use that my eyes didn't dry out as often and I could wear my contacts for longer periods of time
- The darkness that the mask creates is very relaxing
- Instructions were really thorough and easy to follow
- Eye mask is really comfortable
Claws Out:
- a little expensive
Final Comments:
I love this therapy system. It's fairly easy to use and is super comfortable. Although a little pricey at first, you can re-use it over and over again and would only have to replace certain parts (which isn't that expensive in the long run). When I take into account the change in my eyes, this is definitely worth the money. I have actually noticed a difference in how much less my eyes get dry after days of contact wear.
Sometimes, I like putting the mask on after a long day of work just to "relax" since I can't do anything but lie down and listen to some tunes in total darkness (okay, I admit, I have napped a few times while wearing this!).

Product Review: Akasha Spinlash Mascara
As Cinnamon Kitten strives to continue bringing a wide range of product reviews, I'm happy to announce the addition of a fourth regular product reviewer to the blog - lido3vy!
Reviewer: lido3vy
Brand: Akasha
Name: Spinlash Mascara
Size: 0.14 oz / 4 g
Price: approximately $14 USD for a package set
The gimmick with the Akasha Spinlash Mascara is that the wand actually ROTATES 360 degrees (in two directions). The idea is that as the wand rotates, you are separating, coating and curling your eyelashes all at once.
To Purr About:
- plastic bristle, it seperates every lash
- great definition
- no clumps!!
Claws Out:
- a little tricky to use in the beginning
- battery ran out after the 5th day
Final Comments:
I love the revolving bristle idea, now I can skip the whole process of combing after putting mascara on.
You can get more info or purchase details at www.spinlash.com

Product Review: CoverGirl Eye Enhancers
Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten
Brand: CoverGirl
Name: Eye Enhancers Eye Shadow
Size: 2.5 g (0.09 oz)
Price: Approx. $4 CAD
Shade Tried: Purple Pop
I have been really into eyeshadows lately and have added a whole bunch to my makeup stash lately. I also love the colour purple when it comes to eye colours. Shades of purple and lilac always look great with brown eyes, and Asians are no exception.
I've tried a lot of drugstore eyeshadow brands where the colour looks great in the package, but are way too light or washed out when you actually apply it (one drawback of drugstore cosmetic shopping is often the lack of testers).
To Purr About:
- the purple shade looks great in the package and looks just as good once applied
- colour is really strong and vibrant, even with only one sweep of the applicator
- applicator has two different ends - a rounded one and a pointy one, perfect for different application amounts
- really reasonable price
- CoverGirl Eye Enhancers come in a really large amount of options, and include 1, 3 and 4-shade kits
Claws Out:
- none really
Final Comments:
I'm really surprised at the intense wash of colour that these Eye Enhancers provide, even with only one swipe of the applicator. The huge range of colours available means that everyone should be able to find something that they like. Although many of the colours are too bright (think neon green!) for me, I do appreciate how many options there are. The price is really reasonable as well, so you can definitely buy a few to experiment with.
Rating (out of 5):
