World's First Nail Polish Adoption Agency: Parents Needed

I usually don't post too many press releases verbatim on my blog, preferring keep things simple and provide my readers with only the most relevant information, but when this release came into my inbox I just had to laugh - the gang at Nail Polish Canada definitely have a great sense of humour!

Oh, and this is for a "good cause" - a chance at free nail polish! Oh, I mean, a chance to help out a sad and lonely nail polish that's just waiting to be adopted into a good home! :)

Adoptapolish.org announces the world’s first adoption drive for in need nail polish, available for US and Canadian applicants.

Every day, thousands of nail polishes are abandoned or abused. They are not sticky or old, they're fine new polishes, stuck on a shelf because they're forgotten or out of season. All they desire is to be used, and maybe taken for a night on the town in return.

"We have so many polishes who need a good family to take them in." said AdoptAPolish.org executive director Nikki Smith. "All it takes is filling out an application form describing how you can provide a better life for one of our in need nail polishes. We select the best application and take care of all the expenses, delivering your newly adopted polish directly to your door.”

One current nail polish, Charleston, held back tears well describing his life, "I spent two years of my life stacked in a dark room crammed together with thousands of others just like me, hundreds pressing down on my shoulders at any given time. I’m a shimmer and I have never seen sunlight in my life."

Please don’t let the agony go on any longer than it has to. The first round of adoptions closes December 31st.

Product Review: Barry M Nail Paint

Barry M is a staple of most beauty bloggers in the UK. Not being from the UK myself I had never heard of Barry M Cosmetics until I moved here in 1996. It is the quintessential pharmacy/chemist brand with their assortment of nail paints, dazzle dust for the eyes, lipsticks, brushes and other makeup bits. Even thought it has a reputation for being used by school girls, it gets the thumbs up from women of all ages, including me.

Barry M Nail Paint is good value for money, has some great colours and innovative products like the Nail Effects which is the crackle that everyone in the blogosphere has been going crazy for in the last 6 months. Barry M started the trend and now the bigger brands like OPI are bringing out their own crackle shades.

To Purr About:
- Great colours
- Easy to apply
- Dries super quick
- Long lasting, doesn't chip easily
- The price

Claws Out:
- There can be some cuticle drag with some of the lighter colours
- The numbering/name system of colours can be confusing

Final Comments:
I stopped wearing nail polish several years ago (out of laziness mostly) and since I've been blogging I've come over all girly again my collection of Barry M grows bigger by the day. What I really love is that dries really quick, so no sitting around for hours literally watching paint dry. It's also quite hardwearing, I've been able to an entire week without a chip. Barry M also has a high shine factor so a top coat isn't always necessary especially with the darker colours. The only moans and these are minor are the naming/numbering system that Barry M has for the Nail Paints. Most bloggers wish they would just use actual names rather than a combination of both. Also, there can be cuticle drag with some of the lighter colours so you need to be a bit more careful when you apply them.

If and when Barry M does come to Canada it will be a great day for everyone!

- although the nail brush is useful & practical it is a but cheap looking/feeling
- I wish the cuticle sticks had rubbers tips to make them a bit ‘softer’

Final Comments:
To be honest – I don’t take very good care of my nails, but when I see girls with their beautifully manicured nails I am envious. I figured the best way to get started was to try out this great little manicure kit.

I am a big fan of Ms. Manicure products, having tried their 6-surfaced 'Call Your Bluff' filing stick, so I was excited to see they have little kits available.

When I first got my hands on this set I was a bit disappointed that it didn't come with any creams, polishes, etc. but in hindsight that’s probably better as it let's you save on the cost and put your money into the products you want.

There are definitely some great tools included in this set (like the 4-way nail buffer, washable salon board, nail scissors, nail clippers, etc. and it is a great set to get if you are needing to grab some great essentials to start you off, but I found some of the tools (cuticle sticks, nail brush) a bit flimsy. In the end, it’s still a great starter kit, which for a great price gets you all the tools you need to get you started.

Now if I could only figure out how to handle this cuticle nipper with my left hand.

Final Comments:
I’ve been on the lookout for a fun summer shade that is a bit edgy and sticking with my recent obsession with coral colours I decided to pick Sally Hansen’s Insta-Dri nailpolish in Snappy Sorbet Creme.

I was a bit skeptical about how much I would enjoy this product when I saw the applicator brush, but was pleasantly proven wrong once I tried it. The brush made application super fast, easy and consistent (less streaks).

The colour is so vibrant and true to the colour in the bottle. And the best part was I only required one coat and that coat did dry quite fast! Although the nail colour did chip after a couple of days it wasn’t bad considering the wear and tear I put them through, so I’m pretty happy with it.

I am really impressed with this product and am thinking of picking up more colours now.
