GUEST Product Review: Bourjois Eau de Gloss
Guest Reviewer: Alex
Brand: Bourjois
Name: Eau de Gloss
Size: 2 oz
Price: $15.00
Shade Tried: #17 Rose
I'm also always on the search for a new lip product that will leave my lips shiny and smooth for a good period of time without all the clumping and awful faded colour. When I cam upon Bourjois Eau de Gloss I was little put off at the price of $15 for only 2 oz, but decided to give it a try for the beautiful colour. Man, am I glad I did!
To Purr About:
- when applied, leaves lips feeling very smooth and hydrated at the same time. I could swear that it's just water on your lips, but the remarkable color it leaves proves that it's not
- there was absolutely none of that icky clumping or lines on my lips even an hour after applying the product
- the colour of the product lasted on my lips for around 2 hours, leaving my lips glossy the whole time, which is something that's very rare to find in a lip gloss
- the colour that the product looks like in the bottle is the exact same when applied to your lips
- easy brush applicator that dispenses just the right amount of product
- although not a lip plumper, it gives you that great tingly feeling that those products do without any of the burning
- and what would have to be my favourite perk about this product was the fact that my bets guy friend (who's style/beauty-challenged ;) even complimented by lips, calling them very "kissable looking", which is just another bonus in my book, plus a confident booster
Claws Out:
- I really would like it if there was more of a colour choice, seeing as there are onl a few that I think would fit my colouration well, although there's still probably at least 2 colours for every complexion
- I think the price tag on it is a bit much, but that's still not going to keep my from buying!
Final Comments:
I have to say I'm completely pleased with this product. It does everything it claims to do and then some! All in all, this is one of the best beauty investments I've ever made and I plan to grab as many as I can from local Sephora counters!
Rating (out of 5):
Thanks for the review, Alex!
If you have a product that you've tried and would like to write a review, send me an email! Details on how to submit a review can be found in the left-hand sidebar.

Estee Lauder / MAC Warehouse Sale Wrap-up
A few weeks ago I gave away some hard-to-get invitations to the Estee Lauder/MAC Warehouse sale that took place in Markham (north of Toronto). I also went on the Sunday of the 3-day sale, but I didn't spend as much as the last time I went, although there were some great deals to be had.
As usual, the sale was very well organized and because of the way they set up their products, products don't get mixed up, boxes all stay neat and you don't have to rummage like crazy in a single box filled with all different products.
Some readers have asked what the prices were like, so here's a sampling of the prices to be found at this most recent sale (NOTE: all prices are in CDN $)
CLINIQUE
- Dramatically Different Lotion with Pump - $18
- All About Eyes - $20
- Advanced Stop Signs Eye Preventive Cream SPF 15 - $20
- various sample size products - $2
- Eye Makeup Remover - $8
- Blush - $12
- Happy to Be fragrance (full-size) - $30
- lipstick - $9
MAC
- Eye Paint - $9
- set of 5 travel brushes - $5
- Fluidlines - $7
- Nail Lacquer - $7
- Pigments - $9
- Glitter Cream - $12
- Eye Liner - $8
- Select Sheer/Loose Powder - $12
- Lipglass & Lip Varnish - $7
- Pro Longwear Lipcolor - $10
Estee Lauder
- Long Lasting Lipstick & All-Day Lipstick - $10
- More Than Mascara - $8
- Beautiful Eau de Parfum spray - $40
- Advanced Night Repair - $45
- Hydra Complete Multi-Level Moisture Eye Gel Creme - $25
- Pure Color Crystial Lipstick & Pure Color Cyrstal Gloss - $10
Some of the readers who received tickets from me were kind enough to send photos of the stuff they bought - check them out!
Thanks for sending the photos - I hope you guys enjoyed the sale!
On a side note, I had tried to do a good deed by raffling off my extra invitations and it was a horrible experience. There were so many "cheaters" who emailed me several times from different email addresses trying to win tickets, and a couple of people who won tickets who never sent me their address so the tickets went to waste. I'm definitely going to re-think what I'm going to do with my extra tickets if I get any for the next big sale. If anyone has suggestions on a more fair way to distribute tickets, please let me know!

GUEST Product Review: Clinique Three-Step Skin Care System
Guest Reviewer: Allyson
Brand: Clinique
Name: Three-Step Skin Care System
Products Used:
- Liquid Facial Soap for Oily Skin, 6.7 fl oz / 200 ml - $14.50 USD
- Clarifying Lotion # 4, 13.5 fl oz / 400 ml - $19.00 USD
- Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel, 4.2 oz / 125 ml - $23.00 USD
Products used are for oily skin.
To Purr About:
- my face feels clean
- made my skini feel smoother immediately
- noticeably cleared up my break-out prone forehead almost immediately
- fragrance-free and tested extensively to be hypo-allergenic, which is important to me as I have had allergic reactions to products in the past
- the pump on the moisturizer is handy and it comes with a cover for easy travel
- the moisture sinks in right away, so I can put makeup on right away in the morning
Claws Out:
- the clarifying lotion can sting and be a little drying, but for me, it's preferable to the constant oil slick I have with other products and the dryness is easily combatted by using a little extra moisturizer
- it's on the expensive side, but worth it
- Clinique recommends using a product to remove makeup and sunscreen prior to the facial soap, so it's really 4 steps at night (I use the Clinique Wash-Away Gel Cleanser)
- does not have sunscreen - not a big deal for me because my foundation does, but may be a problem for others
Final Comments:
I used this system about 7 years ago, and I didn't like it because the bar soap was messy and the moisture lotion, which was the only option, was too heavy and greasy for my oily skin. The addition of the liquid soap and the moisture gel had me pining away to try the system again and I'm really happy with it.
I have oily skin that still breaks out even at 30 years old, and I've found that these products have a better effect than products for acne control. The toner for skin type 4 does have salicyclic acid in it, so I think that makes it comparable. It's a splurge, but it has been worth it for me. I also read that the products last for a long time...I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Rating (out of 5):
Thanks for the review, Allyson!

The World Loses a Pioneer
Today the world lost a pioneer in the beauty industry - Dame Anita Roddick, the founder of The Body Shop, has died after suffering a major brain haemorrhage at St. Richards Hospital in Chichester at the age of 64.
Her husband, Gordon, and daughters Sam and Justine were all with her.
John Sauven, executive director of Greenpeace, said Dame Anita was an "incredible woman" who would be "sorely missed". He said: "She was a amazing inspiration to those around her, not just in environmental and human rights issues, which were two of her passions.
"She was so ahead of her time when it came to issues of how business could be done in different ways, not just profit motivated but taking into account environmental issues. She was a true pioneer."
Prime Minister Gordon Brown paid his own tribute to Dame Anita. In a statement he said: "I was deeply saddened to hear of the death of Anita Roddick, one of this country's true pioneers.
"She campaigned for green issues for many years before it became fashionable to do so and inspired millions to the cause by bringing sustainable products to a mass market. She will be remembered not only as a great campaigner but also as a great entrepreneur."
As an avid user of Body Shop products, I really appreciated being able to purchase amazing beauty products that were environmentally conscious and supported a variety of worthwhile causes, from the environment to abused women. The Body Shop taught us all that beauty should not come at the price of the environment or animals.
Let's hope that Dame Roddick's vision carries on as we continue to navigate our way through the world of beauty.

Product Review: Gloves in a Bottle
Brand: Gloves in a Bottle
Name: Gloves in a Bottle
Size: 240 ml / 8 fl oz
Price: $12.95USD
This is the second shielding lotion that I've tried (the other being the Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion - reviewed here) and I must say that I love these hand lotions.
According to the back of the bottle:
"Gloves in a Bottle will not wash off, helps keep out moisture-robbing irritants while helping retain natural moisture, resulting in smoother skin that is not dry. Comes off naturally with exfoliated skin cells"
To Purr About:
- the lotion quickly absorbed leaves almost no greasy or oily feeling at all
- very light lotion
- very slight scent (much less fragrance compared to the Natural Shielding Lotion)
- I've tested it out by washing my hands several minutes after application and no slippery lotion action happened
- Again, compared to the Natural Shielding Lotion, the price point is better - a regular bottle of Gloves in a Bottle is twice the size and half the price of the Natural Shielding Lotion
Claws Out:
- often my skin is too dry (especially in the winter) so the Gloves in a Bottle isn't moisturizing enough, but when my skin is normal, this hand moisturizer is amazing since it's so light.
Final Comments:
I think this is a great shielding lotion and because of the larger bottle and lower price, definitely a good buy. There's less of a scent as well, which is good for people (like me) who prefers as many non-scented products as possible in order to only wear one scent. Again, this lotion is nice and light and doesn't wash off easily, so it's great for people who work with their hands that needs moisture but washes their hands often. It would also be helpful to people who suffer from skin problems, such as eczema or psoriasis.
To get more information or to order check out the Gloves in a Bottle web site here.
