Product Review: CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain

Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten

Brand: CoverGirl
Name: Outlast Lipstain
Size: 2.5 g / 0.09 oz
Price: approx. $9 CAD

Shade Tried: Coy Coral

"The water-based colorants of Outlast Lipstain give lips a beautiful, lightweight flush of color that won't come off, lasting for hours without the heavy look or feel of an ordinary lipstick. Its pen-like precision applicator makes it easy to define your lips-just draw on color without any hassle!" (from the CoverGirl web site)

To Purr About:
- marker like packaging makes it easy to handle
- unless you let it try for several minutes before you do anything, the colour comes off quite easily compared to other lip stains I've tried

Claws Out:
- no control over flow of product from tip
- marker tip kept wiping away product from my lips as I went over it on the first application
- the colour will catch and be darker if you have anything but the smoothest lips
- tastes horrible

Final Comments:
I've tried several lip stains recently and I like the light feeling of them, so I've been trying to find a few so that I could have a variety of shades. I was really disappointed with CoverGirl's Outlast Lipstain. First of all, the stain tastes HORRIBLE. Then, you have to let it dry completely, otherwise it comes off easily. Even on the first application, when I was just going over what I had applied to make the colour darker, the marker "tip" kept wiping off the product I had just applied.

Keep in mind, as with many other stains, if you have slightly chapped or dry lips, be careful, as the stain tends to "catch" on these imperfections and make them darker.

Also, the Coy Coral that I tried came out a bright fuchsia colour, which was way too bright for me.

I actually really liked this product! I bought it in #425 - "Plum Pout" on my way to work the other day. When I tried it on, it was a bit bright, but worked well with my darker skin tone (I'm Sri Lankan). The colour became even more intensified with my lip gloss on top of it (Clinique superbalm in black honey).

I enjoyed the application as well, and found that the right amount of stain was dispensed. I ended up buying a second lipstain (in #415 - Teasing Blush, a more subdued shade) on my way home that same day!
