Product Review: Borghese Splendore All Over Body Bronzer

Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten

Brand: Borghese
Name: Splendore All Over Body Bronzer
Size: 354 mL / 12 fl. oz.
Price: approx. $29.50 USD

What it says in the press release:
This bronzing powder comes with its own brush, so you can give a sun-kissed glow to your body (or face), all without looking unnatural or heavy. Apply as much or as little as desired for just the right amount of "no sun required" glow. What it does:
- provides a subtle shimmer and sun-kissed glow
- skin looks natural, bronzed and flawless
- talc-free, fragrance-free and mineral-oil free

Now that summer is coming to a close, my friends and I are looking for ways to keep that summery glow as long as we can. I've never been one for bronzers - I think because most of the time my skin is too fair and bronzers generally are much darker than I require. Blush is usually the way I go, but Borghese's bronzer seems lighter than mot and had a nice shimmer to it, so I figured I'd give it a try.

To use, you twist the neck of the brush to the right and shake it (the brush) gently to release some powder. To finish, just twist the neck to the left and the brush closes up and keeps powder from spilling out.

To Purr About:
- built-in, large brush makes it convenient for application
- not that dark, gives a nice, shimmery glow

Claws Out:
- a little too much shimmer for me for day-wear, but kind of nice when going out in the evening or on weekends
- doesn't really give you a tanned, bronzed look
- takes a little getting used to as you can't really see the powder on the brush

Final Comments:
If you're looking for a deep, tanned, bronzed look to match your summer look, this probably isn't the bronzer for you. But, if you're looking for a subtle, shimmery "glow", this is a really nice product.

I appreciated the large, built-in brush, although because the powder comes out within the brush when you shake it, it's a little hard getting used to how much product there really is on the brush since you can't see it that well.

A really light touch is necessary, so I generally ran the brush across the back of my hand first in order to ensure I didn't get too much product when applying it to my face. The powder is light and shimmer and does leave skin with a nice "glow". But again, this probably isn't something I would wear to the office every day, but it's nice for going out with friends or a dinner date. :)

Product News: Annabelle celebrates the best of black

Brand: Annabelle

Annabelle has long been a staple of my makeup drawer - I remember that for YEARS my favourite eye product was a gorgeous smoky blue-grey eye shade stick. I was so sad the day they discontinued it and still haven't found a suitable replacement in the years (I remember when I found out they were being discontinued that I went to every drugstore I could get to in order to buy up any I could find).

And I definitely found this piece of news interesting - usually brands launch collection based on the season or a product, but this is a collection launch based entirely on that staple colour - black.

Annabelle introduces the best of black by launching FIVE new eye makeup products.

(Please note that prices listed are suggested retail prices)

(New shade) Glitterama in Blast Off, $8.50 CAD
A great addition to the Glitterama family, this black and silver sparkle gel layers beautifully on your favourite eyeliner in a thin line or an all-over sweep for extra oomph.

(New) Liquid Eyeliner in Black Spark, $8.50 CAD
Liquid eyeliner takes on a modern and party-ready twist with a metalized shimmer finish. Easy to apply with the foam tip applicator, this formula will last from morning till late.

(New) Smoothliner in Metal Daze, $6.95 CAD
Super smooth application, intense black payoff, topped off with shimmering specks. Long-lasting, waterproof, metallic and hypo-allergenic.

(New) Smoothie Eyeshadow Pencil in Licoriche, $8.95 CAD
Intense, creamy black jumbo eyeliner that you can apply in a thick line or blen out all over for a dark smokey eye. Extreme longwear that lasts up to 9 hours. Super smooth, glides on easily and makes a wonderful deep black base.

(New) Le Big Show Mascara, $9.95 CAD
Annabelle launches a new mascara that's all about volume. Mega volume from the first stroke, easy separating without clumping and lots of length.

Product Review: John Frieda Full Repair Touch-Up Flyaway Tamer

Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten

Brand: John Frieda
Name: : Full Repair Touch-Up Flyaway Tamer
Size: 14 ml
Price: approx. $14.99 CAD

As soon as I heard about this product, I knew I had to try it. How amazing does this idea sound???

Whenever I wash my hair, it always looks really great the next day - shiny, soft, fragrant...the only thing is that I have what seems like a million flyaway hairs that last until I either put some product in it to tame it or a my hair gets oily and weighs down the flyaways.

Well, this product promises to banish flyaways...and all in a convenient little tube too!

The product info states: "This portable wand polishes broken strands, smoothing flyaways and frayed ends with Inca Inchi oil to keep hair sleek and smooth. This must-have item for any woman’s hair styling arsenal has a crystal-clear formula that weightlessly smoothes flyaways without diminishing hair’s volume. The Touch-up Flyaway Tamer is small enough to fit in your purse making it ideal for touch-ups on the go. To use, simply brush the wand over dry, styled hair to touch-up and give a boost
of shine.

The first test run that I did was last month. I was going to a baptism and washed my hair about an two hours before the event. Immediately after I finished blow-drying my hair, I had to get dressed, get made up and dash out the door. So my fair was definitely doing the whole flyaway thing. In the car, I took the wand out and lightly ran it over the top of my head over the flyaway hairs. Instantly, they were smoothed away. I had used a little too much product, so smoothed down my hair with my hand - big mistake! I ended up some product on my hand where it instantly became sticky. Luckily, I had some wet-wipes with me, otherwise I would have been in trouble since I had nothing to wipe my hand on.

To Purr About:
- easy to use mascara-style wand makes it easy to apply the product to a few hairs
- instantly smoothed down flyaway hair
- compact tube packaging makes it easy to toss into a bag/purse

Claws Out:
- if you touch it right after application, it's sticky, which can be annoying if you're not at home or have any tissue handy

Final Comments:
I love this product. Except for the stickiness if you touch it with your hand, it really does get rid of flyaway hairs instantly without leaving your hair greasy or oily. I'm not sure how shiny it makes your hair since I didn't notice my hair being any shinier than usual, but I'm so happy with the flyaway fix that I don't really care if the product does anything else!

The convenience of the packaging and the applicator makes this a great on-the-go product and something I wish I've had for years!

Product Review: Lavanila The Healthy Body Wash

Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten

Brand: Lavanila
Name: : The Healthy Body Wash
Size: 231 ml / 8 fl oz
Price: $14 USD

Scent Tried: Vanilla Grapefruit

I recently went away with my hubby (GuineaHubby) on a long weekend and grabbed this product since it was both a handy shower wash and shave gel (I love products that are 2-in-1's), plus I LOVE the scent of grapefruit!

What it says on the package:
This All-Natural Shower & Shave Wash delivers gentle cleansing and soft, silky shaving in one step. Hydrating Coconut & Rosehip Oils blend with Soothing Aloe & Calendula for a luxuriously lathering wash that deeply nourishes while you cleanse and prevents irritation as you shave. No Harsh Chemicals.

To Purr About:
- amazing grapefruit scent
- moisturizing body wash that doesn't leave skin dry
- allow very smooth shave with very little irritation

Claws Out:
- doesn't lather up a lot

Final Comments:
First of all - I wasn't disappointed with the grapefruit scent - it smells heavenly!

As a body wash: it doesn't lather up as much as I was hoping, and definitely not a "luxuriously lathering wash", but it isn't bad. It does have that lovely grapefruit scent and does give a nice, clean wash. Afterwards, my skin felt clean and soft, and definitely not dried out. I didn't even feel the need for a moisturizer after my shower, which I often find with a lot of body washes. It also rinses off easily and doesn't leave any residue except for a very light fragrance.

As a shave gel: it's more of a wash gel and doesn't work up into a cream or thick lather like other shave gels, so that's something that I had to get used to, but it does let the razor glide easily over the skin without any tugging. Afterwards I found that the shaved area was very smooth and not dry and my skin didn't hurt, which sometimes happens when my shaving gel/cream dries my skin out too much for shaving.

Overall, I'm really happy with this product. It's a really good body wash and a great shave gel, with a wonderful scent. I also love that it's a 2-in-1 product which is handy for travelling and for lightening the shower clutter.

My August Glymm box

Yay! This afternoon I got a text from my hubby with just 2 words "Glymm box". LOL. It definitely gave me something to look forward to when I got home!

I was excited to see if my August Glymm box measured up to the July one. It would definitely have to have some sweet products to beat the Stila lip gloss and the Gucci mini perfume.

So, as soon as I got home, I headed right for the little pink box sitting on the kitchen counter waiting for me.

In my Glymm box this month:
- B. Kamins Vegetable Cleanser, 7 g / 0.25 oz
- Supergoop Sunscreen Swipes SPF 20, one 6"x8" wipe
- Benefit That Gal, 7.5 ml / 0.25 US fl oz
- Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss in Glam, 0.14 fl oz / 4.2 ml
- a little jar of Jelly Belly beans in white and pink (yummy!)

The first item I saw when I opened up the Glymm box was the Benefit That Gal sample. I've always wanted to try this primer/brightener, so that was exciting. And then I saw the Smashbox lip gloss in a lovely pink shade. After seeing those two items, I was already really happy with this month's surprise.

I know that several Cinnamon Kitten readers also signed up for a Glymm box and I'd love to know if you got the exact same box as me or if you got something different? Let's compare! What did you get?

You can sign up for more information or for your own Glymm box here.

Product Review: Olay Oil Minimizing Toner

Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten

Brand: Olay
Name: : Oil Minimizing Toner
Size: 212 ml / 7.2 fl oz
Price: approx. $6 CAD

Many years ago, I went on a hunt for a great toner and found one in the Neutrogena Oil-Free Toner, which I haven't deviated from in over 10 years (some habits are hard to give up). So, whenever I try a new toner, I can't help but compare it to my favrourite to see how it measures up.

Now, in the past few years, I've also discovered how great Olay products are, so I was pretty excited to try the Olay Oil Minimizing Toner.

To Purr About:
- toner is very effective in removing make-up and leaving skin feeling clean
- make-up came off easily
- not too drying on skin

Claws Out:
- in the bottle, the product has a soapy smell
- during use, the product as a very strong alcohol smell

Final Comments:
All in all, the toner really does the job well. It removes dirt and makeup quickly and easily, without too much tugging. It also left my skin feeling very fresh and clean, without feeling too stripped or dry.

The only problem I have with this product is that it has alcohol in it (which is weird since it doesn't dry out my skin like other alcohol-based products). The alcohol-smell is pretty overpowering.

I don't think that the performance of this product is great enough that I can overlook the alcohol content.

Product Review: Gillette Venus Pro Skin MoistureRich Razor

Reviewer: Suziesaurus

Brand: Gillette
Name: : Venus Pro Skin MoistureRich Razor
Size: n/a
Price: approx. $16.00 CAD

From the website: "The Venus ProSkin MoistureRich razor is designed with
MoistureRich shave gel bars, enhanced with a triple blend of body butters for
a comfortable shave. Simply add water for a light lather and beautifully smooth
skin."

Each package comes with:
- 1 Venus ProSkin MoistureRich Women’s Refillable Razor
- 2 Razor Blade Refill Cartridges
- 1 Shower Hook

To Purr About:
- easy to open packaging
- shave gel bars mean no shaving gel/foam required
- great for travelling, camping, weekend getaways, etc.
- simple and light handy razor holder that is convenient for use in the shower
- easy grip handle that makes it easy to use
- nice clean shave
- leaves legs feeling moisturized

Claws Out:
- none really

Final Comments:
When I first picked up this product I was delighted to find that there were perforations in the packaging to make it easier to open. It comes in one of those sealed plastic packages and for once it was easy to open! I wish all of these types of packages had perforations.

I really like how convenient these razors with built-in shave gel bars as they are so easy to pack for trips. I can just toss in the razor handle and an un-opened razor and I’m good to go. And the replaceable shave gel bars also meant I could shave with the shower running, instead of having to turn the shower head off and run water to clean the blade off in between runs. They also helped to leave my legs feeling moisturized (in addition to smooth) and didn’t dry them out which was nice.

Although there were a few hairs I missed I’m not sure if it was my shaving technique or as a result of the razor.

On a side note - I liked how simple the shower hook was – not overly bulky, but unfortunately the suction cup never stays suctioned to my shower walls (I’m assuming because of the type of tile I have).

Product Review: Olay Silk Whimsy Cleansing Bodywash

Reviewer: Suziesaurus

Brand: Olay
Name: : Silk Whimsy Cleansing Bodywash
Size: 354 mL / 12 fl. oz.
Price: approx. $6 CAD

From Olay’s website: "Olay Silk Whimsy Cleansing Body Wash, discover a world of romance when you smooth on this whisper light lather with delicate rose extract and almond oil. Feel it hush over you like rose petals floating in a Venetian bath.”

To Purr About:
- it is "light" – as the product is described
- seems to clean efficiently

Claws Out:
- scent is very superficial
- consistency is a bit thin / watery for my liking
- not moisturizing

Final Comments:
I have tried many Olay products in the past few years and I think have mostly had a quite positive experience, but unfortunately after using this product for about a month I have to say I’m a bit disappointed.

The first thing I noticed about this product is the scent. It is strong and I am not very fond of it. And although it’s botanical in scent, it’s not relaxing and I find it very superficial and fake.

Since this body wash isn’t very moisturizing and since my skin is extremely dry and irritable I don’t think I’ll be buying this particular product. I think this product might work well for you if you have oilier skin.
