Product Review: Caress Brazilian Exotic Oil Infusions Body Wash

Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten

Brand: Caress
Name: Brazilian Exotic Oil Infusions Body Wash
Size: 15 oz.
Price: approx. $5.99 USD

Containing Acai Fruit Oil & Passion Flower Cream, Caress Brazilian Exotic Oil Infusions Body Wash softens skin and leaves a luscious, irresistible sheen. The acai berry, found in the palm trees of the Amazon, is known for its antioxidant properties and energizing essence.

As I'm a body wash girl, as opposed to bar soaps, I was excited to try out a new one. It's definitely part of my normal routine in keeping my skin soft and moisturized.

To Purr About:
- in the shower, the scent is really nice
- body wash is craemy and lathers up really well
- after towelling off, the scent still lingers on the skin, but is very light
- my skin was soft amd moisturized

Claws Out:
- although my skin felt moisturized, it's not "silky soft" or super-hydrated

Final Comments:
I do like this new body wash, and as it's available in a couple of other scents as well (Japanese and Moroccan) there's probably a scent that you'll enjoy. It's definitely one of the most moisturizing body washes I've tried in a long time.

GUEST Product Review: Aveeno Skin Brightening Daily Scrub

Reviewer: kho

Brand: Aveeno
Name: Skin Brightening Daily Scrub
Size: 5 oz / 140 g
Price: approx. $7 USD

I'm a religious user of the 3-step Clinique system. I rarely, if ever deviate from these products. However, I was convinced to try this exfoliator by Aveeno. The website claims the following:

"This daily facial scrub helps improve skin tone, texture and clarity to reveal brighter, more radiant skin. This unique formula combines natural soy extracts with smooth, round microbeads to gently exfoliate while you cleanse, leaving skin soft, smooth and even-looking. Good for everyday use and gentle enough for sensitive skin."

To Purr About:
- very gentle on the skin
- you can feel the microbeads working to remove dead skin cells on the surface of your face
- has a very pleasant scent
- softens and smoothes out skin

Claws Out:
- didn't notice a difference in my skin tone
- doesn't prevent acne

Final Comments:
Overall, it's a great product. Although it takes some time for results to appear, the effects in the long term are worth it. One tube will last a long time since a very small amount is required for each use.

Product Review: Banana Boat Sport Dri-Blok

Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten

Brand: Banana Boat
Name: Sport Dri-Blok
Size: 180 mL
Price: approx. $10 CAD

SPF Protection: 30
Format: bottle

Claims:
- waterproof
- sweatproof

PLEASE NOTE: Because everyone's skin tone is so different and some people burn much more quickly than others, I have asked all Sun Product reviewers to NOT review sun products for their ability to protect you from getting burnt. You must use your own judgement to choose the right SPF level. Instead, we'll comment on other features (scent, oiliness, etc)

"Goes on like a lotion, dries like a powder"

To Purr About:
- waterproof and sweatproof
- very light cream almost instantly absorbs into skin
- no greasy after-feel
- dries so quickly, there's very little chance of sand sticking on your skin
- fragrant, banana-sweet smell

Claws Out:
- would love it if the fragrance wasn't so strong

Final Comments:
This is one of the lightest sunblocks I've ever tried in terms of feel. It's an extremely light cream that instantly absorbs into my skin and left no oily/greasy after-feel. I was quite impressed with how quickly it absorbed and how it felt afterwards. After 5 minutes, it felt as if I hadn't put on any sunblock at all! The only thing that kept me from giving this a perfect score is the fragrance - it's the typical tropical-banana smell, but it's a little too strong for me.

NEW Product: benefit b spot

Brand: benefit
Name: b spot
Size: 50 ml / 1.7 fl. oz.
Price: $38 USD

"Every gal's got one (a few, actually)... b spots, that is. Awaken your most seductive pulse points with this new fragrance from Benefit. It's a sexy combo of lush mango; faster, faster, freesia; provocative peony & steamy sandalwood... and don't forget to shake, shake, shake your amber, baby!" (from the Benefit web site)

Although I'm all for light, summery scents as soon as the warmer weather hits town, I'm not sure about the "mango" in this fragrance. I mean, I love the smell and taste of mangoes, but not sure if I want to walk around personally smelling like one.

Hopefully the other scents in this product balance out the fruity fragrance - I can't wait to check this out and give it a whiff!

A BEE-autiful Contest

June 22–28 is National Pollinator Week. Now you may be wondering, what does that have to do with beauty?

But once you think of all the lovely things the humble little bee does for humans - besides polinnating all the plants, they provide honey and beeswax (an important ingredient in a lot of cosmetics), how can we ignore them?

Now, one of my favourite brands, Burt’s Bees, wants to give these little pollinators their moment in the spotlight for all the work they do in providing us with healthy products that keep us looking BEE-utiful.

What does that have to do you with you? How about a chance to win a Burt's Bees Radiance Kit?

Cinnamon Kitten has 5 of these awesome Radiance Kits to give away to my US readers! Each kit contains travel sizes of some popular Burt's Bees products, including:
- Mini Exfoliating Body Bar (.80 oz.)
- Exfoliating Body Wash (1 fl. oz.)
- Mini Body Lotion (.50 fl. oz.)
- Day Creme (.25 oz.)
- Night Creme (.25 oz.)
- Eye Creme (packette) (.67 oz.)
- Full Size Lip Shimmer (.0975 oz.)

How to enter:
Send an email to cinnamonkitten@gmail.com with your full name, the country where you live and the answer to the folloing question (answer can be found on www.burtsbees.com):

Something devastating is happening to our bees - colonies of honeybees are disappearing and so far, no one has been able to figure out why. What is the name of this horrible "disease"?

All entries must be received by June 28. Only 1 entry per person, please. Winners will be chosen at random and you'll be notified by email. Contest is open to US ONLY (sorry Canadians, but Burt's Bees only delivers to the US and they're shipping the prizes directly, so this wasn't my choice).

Like this contest? Want more chances to win? Subscribe to the Cinnamon Kitten newsletter for your chance to win prizes every month!

"Some looks are too hot for summer to handle but not Cool Heat. Sweltering corals, chill-out blues, complemented by Turquatic and its warm new sister shade, Turquatic Heat, create this season's coolest - and steamiest - beauty paradox." (description from MAC site)

I wasn't loving the last MAC collection - Neo Sci-Fi. I know it was supposed to scream "summer heat" but orange just doesn't look that great on most people. Now this collection is different - I ADORE the shades - sultry pinks and corals and those gorgeous blues!

Product Review: Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen

Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten

Brand: Neutrogena
Name: Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen
Size: 88 mL
Price: approx.

SPF Protection: 55 (also available in 70 and 85)
Format: tube

Claims:
- waterproof
- sweatproof
- rubproof
- oil-free

PLEASE NOTE: Because everyone's skin tone is so different and some people burn much more quickly than others, I DO NOT review sun products for their ability to protect you from getting burnt. You must use your own judgement to choose the right SPF level. Instead, I'll comment on other features (scent, oiliness, etc)

To Purr About:
- light pleasant slightly-floral fragrance that smells more like a perfume than a sun-protection product
- thick, creamy formula
- absorbs quickly and doesn't leave a greasy feel, after a couple of minutes, doesn't feel like you're wearing anything at all
- small tube is convenient for toting around

Claws Out:
- after a day of wear, there was a slight rubbery, gritty feel to my shoulders and arms

Final Comments:
I would definitely take this sunscreen with me to the beach. It's light, absorbs quickly and has a high-enough SPF to protect from the sun.

Product Review: Neutrogena Fresh Cooling Sunblock Gel

Reviewer: S.K.Y.

Brand: Neutrogena
Name: Fresh Cooling Sunblock Gel
Size: 118 mL
Price: approx. $15 CAD

SPF Protection: 45 (also available in 30)
Format: tube

Claims:
- waterproof
- sweatproof
- oil-free

PLEASE NOTE: Because everyone's skin tone is so different and some people burn much more quickly than others, I have asked all Sun Product reviewers to NOT review sun products for their ability to protect you from getting burnt. You must use your own judgement to choose the right SPF level. Instead, we'll comment on other features (scent, oiliness, etc)

To Purr About:
- waterproof & sweatproof
- does not leave a greasy feel
- small package which is convenient
- subtle pleasant smell – unlike other sunblocks I have tried
- slightly cooling
- I did not burn

Claws Out:
- not as "cooling" as I would like
- weird flaking when being applied

Final Comments:
I was reading an article in the Toronto Star about sunblocks and after reviewing a few, they highly recommended the Neutrogena line of sunblocks, so I was pretty stocked to give this product a try. Even after being stored outside in my bag for a day during high temperatures, it was still slightly cooling which was impressive and very nice to the skin. I was out in the sun & water for the whole day and did not burn or really have to re-apply. The only thing was that it made the sand stick to me right after application, but obviously that can’t really be avoided.

Product Review: Hawaiian Tropic Sunblock

Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten

Brand: Hawaiian Tropic
Name: Sunblock
Size: 240 mL
Price: approx. $10 CAD

SPF Protection: 30 (also available in 15, 45, 70 and travel sizes for 15 and 45)
Format: bottle

Claims:
- waterproof
- oil-free

PLEASE NOTE: Because everyone's skin tone is so different and some people burn much more quickly than others, I WILL NOT review sun products for their ability to protect you from getting burnt. You must use your own judgement to choose the right SPF level. Instead, I'll comment on other features (scent, oiliness, etc)

To Purr About:
- thick creamy formula
- absorbs quickly - after I rubbed it in it didn't leave any greasy after-feel or oil on my skin
- very moisturizing

Claws Out:
- the signature "Hawaiian Tropic" smell - a mixture of banana and coconut is slightly too strong for me
- a pretty thick cream - takes some good rubbing to get it all absorbed

Final Comments:
This is definitely a "beach" or "vacation" sunblock. The coconut smell that I've come to expect from Hawaiian Tropic is a little too strong for everyday where, but would be perfect on a tropical island somewhere!

Product Review: Aveeno Sunblock Lotion

Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten

Brand: Aveeno
Name: Sunblock Lotion
Size: 109 mL
Price: approx. $15 CAD

SPF Protection: 30 (also available in 15, 45, 70 and travel sizes for 15 and 45)
Format: tube

Claims:
- water resistant
- oil-free
- non-greasy

PLEASE NOTE: Because everyone's skin tone is so different and some people burn much more quickly than others, I WILL NOT review sun products for their ability to protect you from getting burnt. You must use your own judgement to choose the right SPF level. Instead, I'll comment on other features (scent, oiliness, etc)

To Purr About:
- light creamy formula
- absorbs very quickly
- moisturizing
- slight pleasant fragrance
- not very greasy

Claws Out:
- a little expensive compared to other sunblocks
- not water"proof", only water"resistant"

Final Comments:
I really love this sunblock. It's light and creamy and the scent is pretty light and is pretty nice. My only complaint is that you don't get that much for the price, so it's a little on the expensive side. On the other hand, it's Aveeno, a brand that I've had a lot of luck with. Because it's only water-resistant, this is more a sunblock to wear when you're just lounging around and not if you're planning on doing any rigorous or water-related activities.

Product Review: Lise Watier Toscana Gloss Stick

Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten

Brand: Lise Watier
Name: Toscana Gloss Stick
Size: n/a
Price: n/a

Shade Tried: Rose

Lise Watier has put out a limited edition summer line, inspired by the lovely region of Tuscany. One of the products from this line is the Toscana Gloss Stick.

Formulated with olive oil, this lipstick claims to have a light and creamy texture and comes in subtle yet shining shades. Promises a light fruity scent.

I was really excited because this was the first Lise Watier product I've ever tried. I didn't know what to expect, but the colours and packaging of this product was really promising.

To Purr About:
- the light fruity scent is really sweet and nice
- lipstick is creamy, slick - it absolutely glides on
- very moisturizing and light
- doesn't cake up in the corners
- colour is glossy and shiny - colour is nice, sheen and not too intense

Claws Out:
- only comes in 4 shades

Final Comments:
I really like this lipstick! It's light and glides on so easily and smoothly. The colour is slightly too pink than I prefer, but the formula is great. I really wish that this came in more shades, but as this is my first Lise Watier product, I may hit the store and check out their other lines!

Product Review: HydraMe Lipz Lip Balm

Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten

Brand: HydraMe
Name: Lipz
Size: 15 sheets
Price: $4.79 USD

HydraMe is a brand dedicated to providing skin nutrition through moisturization and some all natural ingredient products.

Recently, I got to try out their Lip Balm, Lipz. As someone obsessed with lip products, summer is a very difficult time as often the heat and humidity make it difficult as there are so many challenges - you want to use SPF, not dry out your lips, prevent lipstick caking, etc.

To Purr About:
- almost no fragrance at all to this lip balm - there is a scent, but it's extremely light and wouldn't compete at all with any other scents you would wear
- lip balm glides on easily
- convenient stick packaging
- light and non-sticky
- hydrated my lips very well - I definiitely noticed smoother, softer lips
- good staying power

Claws Out:
- wish I could buy it at a local store rather than having to order online

Final Comments:
This lip balm is great! It works really well and is light and smooth.

If you want to order this product or check out HydraMe's other products, go to their web site: www.hydrame.com.

Product Review: Earth Therapeutics Tea Tree Oil Foot Wipes

Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten

Brand: Earth Therapeutics
Name: Tea Tree Oil Foot Wipes
Size: 15 sheets
Price: approx. $5.99 USD

Refreshing and cooling, these foot wipes are said to be specially formulated with tea tree oil and natural mint to clean and revive tired, overworked feet. Sized for convenience and portability in a resealable pouch, these wipes can be used anytime, anywhere to bring a spring to your step.

Although most people would find this an odd product at first glance, I immediately thought of my trip to London, England. I was there a couple of years ago in the middle of an extremely bad heat wave and I spent my week exploring the city in flip-flops. I love, love, LOVE London, but there's something in the air that can't only be described as "grimy". And in that heat, my feet were almost black on the soles by the end of the day (yuck!) So these foot wipes would definitely have come in VERY handy!

So to put these to the test, I used them yesterday. It was Toronto's first hot day of the year (nearly 37 degrees Celcius with the humidity) and I spent 5 hours playing 18 rounds of golf, so my feet were sweaty and sticky and HOT. I used these wipes and then slipped my feet into ballet slipper shoes.

To Purr About:
- resealable pouch is very convenient and handy, it's just like a packet of tissue
- light tea tree/mint scent is pleasant
- instantly cooled my feet down and got rid of all the sweat
- after a quick wipe-down my feet were ready to go
- although the wipe is wet, feet dried quickly and there was no wait time

Claws Out:
- pouch is a little big to tuck into a purse unless you're carrying a large tote around
- some people may find the scent a little "off" - it's not quite minty, slightly medicinal

Final Comments:
These little wipes were really great. After a day of sweating it out in the sun, wearing socks and golf shoes, a quick wipe with these little sheets cleaned, cooled and did "renew" my feet instantly. I was able to slip into sandals right away and didn't feel at all like I had been in sweaty socks a few minutes before.

You can check out the Tea Tree Oil Foot Wipes and other Earth Therapeutics products (and order online) at their web site: http://www.earththerapeutics.net/.

I'm diligently trying each and every one of them, which is easier now that the warmer weather is finally here and I'm spending more time outside.

NEW Product: Smashbox Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder

Brand: Smashbox
Name: Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder
Size: 0.75 oz

Price: approx. $59 USD

I love Smashbox because I'm completely addicted to their Photo Finish, but I'm not sure if I believe this product - I guess only time will tell!

Available in 4 shades: Fair, Light, Medium and Dark

Halo's blend of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants provides the convenience of a pressed powder with the radiant finish of a loose powder. This product is packed with Goji berry for antioxidant protection, plus amino acids, 48 of nature's nutrients, and powerful peptide and hydrogel technology. Oil-free, talc-free, and paraben-free. Simply twist the built-in shaver and apply.

This new powder foundation doesn't only promise a pretty complexion, it also claims to:
- reduce the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes by 33% after 10 minutes
- reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by 67% after 6 weeks

Product Review: Chillessence be great body lotion

Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten

Brand: Chillessence be great
Name: Body Lotion
Size & Price: 2.7 oz ($6.99) or 8 oz ($14.99)

Many serious beauty girls are paying more attention to ingredients and making smarter choices. So it's no surprise thay many companies are coming up with more natural products that are healthier for us (remember that article that was in all the media a few months ago about how almost all the beauty products you put on your skin get absorbed into your system?)

Chillessence has come up with a lovely line called "be great" that features products made without artificial, toxic or potentially harmful ingredients. It's a line of natural and organic body lotions and soaps.

To Purr About:
- light clean floral fragrance is really nice and makes me think of Spring
- lotion is really thick, but not greasy or heavy
- absorbs very quickly and doesn't leave a greasy feel
- skin feels moisturized afterwards

Claws Out:
- the fragrance isn't for everyone and if you're applying this cream all over your body, it may be a little too much fragrance

Final Comments:
I really like this body lotion because it is thick and creamy, but absorbs quickly and isn't greasy. My only complaint is the fragrance - I don't really care for any of my creams/lotions to have any fragrance since it competes with other products or my perfume. But other than the fragrance, this product is great!

Rating (out of 5):
