NEW Product: M·A·C Sundressing

Brand: M·A·C
Name: Sundressing
Size: n/a
Price: $27.50 CAD/$22 USD

Product Notes:
- Limited Edition product
- easy to apply bronzing body makeup
- adds a shimmering look to the skin
- provides a natural-look, sheer-to-low coverage
- soft mousse formula dispenses onto the skin via a pump
- highly blendable: spreads easily over the legs, arms, shoulders and décolletage
- water resistant

Colours:
- medium
- medium dark
- dark
- deep dark

Final Comments:
As summer approaches, I continue to look for great products that can give my skin the "tanned" look without a funny smell, streaks or any other unnatural tell-tale signs. M·A·C has never failed me before, but again, as with all Limited Edition products, I hate finding something I like and then never being able to buy it again!

Product Review: E.L.F. Elements Compact & Refills

Brand: E.L.F.
Name: Elements Compact
Size: n/a
Price: $1 USD for empty compact ($1 USD for each refill)

Colours Tried:
- Custom Lips in Earth Rose
- Custom Face in Flushed
- Custom Eyes in Periwinkle
- Custom Eyes in Dusk

The E.L.F. Elements Compact is a great little system. It's a simple white compact with a mirror and four magnetic circular areas where you can insert a mix of E.L.F. refills, including eye shadows, lipsticks and blushes. You can purchase a pre-filled compact or buy an empty one and customize it yourself.

The picture on the E.L.F. site is slightly different from the compact that I received - there's a slit in the middle to hold a tiny applicator.

To Purr About:
- magnetic system is extremely easy to use and convenient
- lets you customize a whole bunch of different combinations easily and cheaply
- the eyeshadow refills are great! The pigments are rich and last for most of the day
- compact mirror is large and convenient

Claws Out:
- the blush size is small so it's hard to get a lot of powder on a large brush (and there's no blush brush small enough to fit in the compact
- the lipstick brush is so tiny it's hard to get lipstick on quickly
- the colours aren't true to shade when you see them on the internet. For example, Custom Eyes in Dusk looks like a dark coal colour, but when it arrived it's actually a deep purple (it's in the top left corner of the photo of my compact)

Final Comments:
All in all, I really like this system. It's easy to use and since it's customizable it works for everyone. At $1 per refill, it's easy to design more than 1 "set" and carry along several colour palettes.

I'm not crazy about the lipstick or blush refills, but plan to order 2 more eyeshadow refills to create an eyeshadow compact with my current element compact.

3-month reno

As I wind down at my current job and start a new one, this little blog (which just hit the 3-month mark this past Friday!) will be undergoing some minor changes. So in other words, there may not be any postings in 3-4 days, but don't worry, I'll be back before the weekend!

I'm just updating the blog with some new features (some suggested by readers!), including - merging some labels and adding brand labels to make it easier to find things (which means re-labelling past posts), a rating system on product reviews, more structured templates for reviews and new products and, of course, more product reviews!

See you all soon!

More Lipstick Products for Me!!! :D

As you all know, I'm a lip product addict. And what better way to celebrate getting a new job than to try two new lip products that I've never tried before in two opposite shades? :)

So I just signed my job offer and hopped over to PharmaPlus and on a splurge, bought Almay's Ideal Lipgloss in Wine Shimmer and L'Oreal's Endless Kissable Lipcolour in Be Blushed. I'll list these in my weekly Beauty Buys list, but was so excited I just had to share!

Watch for product reviews soon!

NEW Product: Smashbox Palettes for PETA

Cosmetic companies seem to all be coming up with innovative ways to support their favourite causes. Take MAC's Viva Glam lip products, or their Back-to-MAC recycling campaign. Or Cargo's PlantLove lipstick. And then there's Body Shop and it's entire line of products.

Not to be left behind, Smashbox has launched an eyeshadow collection in support of PETA.
Smashbox Palettes for PETA are a cruelty-free vegan eyeshadow trio. Sounds great, but can someone please exaplin to me how eyeshadow can be "vegan"?

Product Notes:
- formulated for great blendability
- has never been tested on animals
- includes a double-ended brush
- adorable bunny embossing on product

Colour info:
- currently available in 2 shades:
Earth Mother (with shimmering ivory/shimmering taupe/deep bronze shimmer) and In The Wild (with pale gold shimmer/golden peach shimmer/sage green shimmer)

Available at Sephora for $39 CAD/$34 USD for 0.12 oz, the product is listed as a "limited edition" item on Sephora.com. So if you're a fan of Smashbox or PETA, you'd better snap up this collectible now!

Product Review: Clinique Advanced Stop Signs Eye Preventive Cream SPF 15

Clinique Advanced Stop Signs Eye Preventive Cream SPF 15 has been part of my daily routine for about 4 years now. Within the first few months of using this product for the first time, I started to notice that the sensitive skin around my eyes was smoother and felt softer.

Clinique notes:
"Moisturizing formula actively helps prevent the visible effects of eye-area skin's photoaging. Incorporates encapsulated sunscreens to shut out aging UVA and burning UVB rays. Helps reverse the look of fine lines, discolourations. Instantly brightens."

I use this as my daytime eye cream and besides the intense moisturization, some of the other "pros" about this product:
- very light, creamy texture
- if I get this in my eye by accident, it doesn't sting at all
- after a couple of minutes, I can apply my eye makeup without worrying about the eye cream being too greasy

The only con is the price. At $41.50 CAD for a small 15 ml jar, it does put a slight dent in the wallet. However, I have noticed that I only need to use a very tiny dab for each eye, which means that one jar can last several months. Usually I can stretch this product so that I only purchase it whenever there's a Clinique bonus offered (every 6 months or so). :)

Have you tried this product? Let us know what you think!

CEW Beauty Awards

Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) is a nonprofit organization with over 4,000 executives in the beauty, cosmetics, fragrance and related industries.

Each year, CEW hands out its Beauty Awards to recognize the most innovative beauty products of the year. Finalists are selected by CEW members, industry insiders and beauty experts. Winners are then selected by a voting committee comprised from the CEW Board.

The finalists for the 2007 CEW Beauty Awards were released in March and the winners will be announced on May 2, 2007.

Since the finalists represent some of the best products available, I thought that some of you may be interested in which items made the cut. So in the next few days I'll be posting the finalists by category.

For more information on CEW, you can check out their website here.

Beauty Buys: Mar 25-31, 2007

I had originally written a post about my shopping trip to Sephora, but then started to wonder just how much I really spend on beauty products. So I'm going to keep track using this blog.

An added bonus is that if any readers see a product that I've purchased that they want me to write a review about, they can just ask!
